As Osmosis almost reaches the halfway point, Episode 3, “Troubles”, highlights the corruption occurring in this complex story about ethics and technology. The genius siblings are not a popular duo in a fast-paced world where landing the perfect dating application is paramount to success.

Paul (Hugo Becker) is understandably concerned about Joséphine (Philypa Phoenix) who is captured, drugged and in an unknown state, but with the stakes high Esther (Agathe Bonitzer) believes that there is a mole inside their organization. Esther is facing her personal problems, with her meddling with the three testers to help her mother having adverse effects on the testing. It’s given the test subjects memories in a swimming pool.

“Troubles” gives us further insight into the success and the harmful elements of the implant that the testers are experiencing. It seems that Ana has been compromised by one of the competitors, who secretly ask her on a park bench her side effects. Ana is doubtful that the implant works due to who it has matched her with; a tall man with a six-pack feels well out of her league, so her curiosity has heightened.

Osmosis Episode 3 Recap - Troubles

As for Niels, the implant has transformed his sex addiction, meaning when he comes in to close contact with his “soulmate” he gets visions of her naked in a pornographic sense. Billie, one of the developers, notices alarming chemistry in his brain and requests that he leaves her alone for a few days. It was apparent this request wasn’t going to work; as always in a narrative, love conquers all. When he meets her, they play in a fountain, but his visions end up forcing him to push her over, and she starts to drown.

“Troubles” is incisive about the corporate pressure that companies hold when it comes to technology. The investors visit the Osmosis building, putting pressure on Paul to change his approach, but he refuses, not allowing financial troubles to blind his overall business plan. They soon learn who was a mole in their development team, who has been liaising with their rival The Perfect Match. She is motivated by money, not vision.

As “Troubles” ends, we learn that Esther is feeling lonely, and she continues to use competitor applications so she can share intimacy virtually. It’s a strange series Osmosis, with every character looking to stab each other in the back; but the siblings seem strong and unable to break. Episode 3 closes with Paul learning that the investors are linked to the disappearance of Joséphine, with a strikingly attractive woman blackmailing him.
