The Society Episode 4, “Drop by Drop”, represents how fragile the town has become after the murder of Cassandra. Gordie (José Julián) is taking logical steps to the tragedy, investigating the crime scene and taking the bullets out so he can match the casings. At the funeral, Will (Jacques Colimon) tries to force Harry (Alex Fitzalan) and Campbell (Sean Berdy) to leave, and Allie (Kathryn Newton) delivers a tearful speech before asking “who did it?”.

Tensions are high, so Kelly (Kristine Froseth) asks Will to be careful about how everyone talks to each other, which encourages a group of them to create “The Guard” which is built to protect the town.

In a side scene, it becomes a game of murder mystery as Gwen (Olivia Nikkanen) and her friends play “shag, marry, or kill?”, which was prompting a discussion in who may have killed Cassandra. Meanwhile, Kelly confronts Harry, asking if he was involved in the murder and due to his pride he refuses to be entertained by the conversation.

The American series becomes irony to its own country’s political landscape because most of The Society Episode 4 becomes about guns. Helena (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) is arming herself up despite Luke’s (Alex MacNicoll) concern about keeping so many weapons. Brandon (Christopher Gray) pulls a gun on Clark (Spencer House) because he wants food and all this violent talk does not help Becca’s (Gideon Adlon) mindset about being pregnant, it’s just adding to her anxiety.

“Drop by Drop” sees the tensions overflow into the cafeteria as a brawl starts resulting in gunshots going off, and it turns into absolute chaos. “The Guard” need a new idea to stem the lack of control in the town following on from Cassandra’s death. On behalf of the group, Gordie asks Allie to stand up as a leader in Cassandra’s place, but she’s upset she is asked and does not wish leadership on herself. With Cassandra gone, Allie is naturally the next most interesting character. Despite not wanting the burden, Allie agrees to lead but asks for protection from “The Guard” every second of every day.

The Society Episode 4 Drop by Drop Recap - Netflix Series

Allie delivers a simple speech to the town, explaining she is the new leader of the community, and the original rules will be back into place again, with an additional policy to confiscate guns. “Drop by Drop” is a presentation to problems of gun control and violence in the USA today. With new rules in place and democracy starting to retake hold, Elle (Olivia DeJonge) suggests to Kelly to organize a weekly movie night. The idea goes ahead, but her plans are stumped slightly as Campbell refuses to go.

We have a pro-gun supporter, folks. Helena confronts Allie about the issue, stating she will not hand in her weapons because there is no way of assuring that everyone will hand in every single gun. Will asks if they should raid her house to take them.

The movie night goes ahead, and the understandably fragile Allie reminiscences about the times she used to go to the cinemas with Cassandra which spurs her decision not to destroy the guns, but to keep them. She is pre-empting a civil war.

“Drop by Drop” ends another chapter in disturbing circumstances as Sam tells “The Guard” a time when he was younger where he became fond of a small bird, and when he noticed it was out of its cage, he saw Campbell outside playing with it, and then he proceeded to chop its wings off. His parents took him to the doctors, and it was concluded that he is a psychopath.

As Sam opens up on his story, in Campbell’s house, he starts arousing Elle in the bath after a successful movie night, but he suddenly starts drowning her. He brings her back to the surface and explains that he would never really hurt her and that he will do everything to protect her. He blames her for making it hard.

The first two episodes of The Society was a calamity of errors, but it’s starting to pick up now.
