Summary

Abyss Season 1, Episode 2 continues to be strange, but is interesting, as the series is a mix of a murder mystery and a possible lurking romance.

The majority of Abyss Season 1, Episode 2 distinguishes the differences between Se-Yeon (Bo-Young Park) and Cha Min’s (Hyo-Seop Ahn) souls. Cha Min has become significantly attractive while Se-Yeon looks ordinary, and the episode describes her to have a common face. Yes, folks, Abyss rips into the normal looking people, so if you are ugly, I’d recommend you stop watching. I’m obviously joking, but it’s hilarious that the Netflix series has taken this narrative spin.

At the start, Se-Yeon does not believe Cha Min’s claims that they came back to life and they have been reborn in their soul form. It’s interesting that Se-Yeon came back deemed as common-looking, highlighting that before her death she was deemed to be beautiful but lacking personality, whereas Se-Yeon was deemed ugly but had a big heart. The roles have switched, and the duo has to adapt to their new identities.

They struggle at the start of Abyss Episode 2 as they need to make sure the police do not suspect them; at one point Cha Min tries using his bank card, and Se-Yeon learning of this decides to make the rules, using pawn shops and other means to get money and ways of communicating. They spend a large portion of the episode discussing their new forms, with Se-Yeon more bothered about how she looks than the task in hand i.e. finding the killer who did this.

On more pressing matters, Abyss Episode 2 sees Se-Yeon and Cha Min having flashbacks on the night the murder happened, which ultimately leads to them suspecting Oh Yeong-cheol (Sung-Jae Lee); it turns out Cha Min revived him with the Abyss, which is a twist in the events. The police are also getting a whiff of who the murderer may be and they are stepping up their game as well.

After eating a Subway, spending money (cash only) and snooping around the murder scene, Se-Yeon and Cha Min are confident they know what happened tonight, and make steps towards taking him down.
