Episode 6 finally makes some progress for our characters who were becoming defeatists recently. There’s a scene before the big break where Grace Rasmussen (Toni Collette) makes an unmotivating speech stating they are no closer to the truth than when they started.

During Episode 6, Grace makes a bold move to get close to the police officer she suspects may be the rapist. Her partner also provides her with his file, which does not put him in a good light. After her colleague looks at cell towers, she finds out that in one of the locations of the rapes, the police officer in question was within half a mile distance at the time, however, he made no calls to provide evidence for the other locations. In other words, it is likely to be circumstantial evidence.

Grace decides to go undercover, sitting at a bar where this officer regularly visits, pretending to be into basketball. The officer tricks her, making out like he is making a move on Grace, before making it known that he knows she’s a detective and spits in her face.

As for Marie, Episode 6 sees her world becoming darker, but I’m more frustrated at Judith. Despite the suspicion that her false statement was not a false statement, she continues to give her a hard time. Marie suffers a lot of flashbacks in Episode 6 involving the night she was raped. Marie is forced to borrow $500 off Judith to pay her court fine. Her behavior slips below the standards of the counseling home she resides in when she returns home drunk and high. Marie has to return to Judie’s house.

And then the double blow; Marie takes the guilty plea in court, placing her on one year’s probation.

Anyway, to the moment where we may have a break in the investigation. Elias the intern raises his hand in an important meeting and lets everyone know that he has found a registration plate and a vehicle owner of the car they found circling the block the night when Amber was raped. Grace and Karen Duvall (Merritt Wever) get approval to monitor the new person of interest — Christopher McCarthy. They wait outside his house, hoping he leaves so they can search inside.

Eventually, they believe that the house is empty, and Karen follows Christopher to a cafe, hoping to take some DNA samples. Meanwhile, Grace knocks on the house door to confirm no-one is inside.

Unbelievable Season 1, Episode 6 ends awkwardly for the detectives, as the house was not empty, and Christopher answers the door. Karen was collecting the wrong DNA and Grace had to pretend she was investigating burglaries in the area.
