Summary

Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet season 1 is a surprise hit on the Apple platform, giving us the gaming version of The Office with a consistently funny story.

Apple TV+ series Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet season 1 will be released on the platform on February 7, 2020. Subscribe to Apple TV+ and add it to your list.

The crossover of Film Twitter and Gaming Twitter only intensely occurs when a Film or TV show is released that is based on a game. Gamers tentatively get excited about the release, hoping that the content goes straight for their hearts, bringing to the surface everything they loved about their beloved game. Cinephiles curate lists of best video game adaptations ever but always footnote it with “there has never ever been a truly outstanding film based on one”.

I was one of the few that believed Tomb Raider (2018) broke the mould, but I had to quickly hide behind my desk when I realised it bombed critically.

Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet is not a video game adaptation, and it is not what gamers asked for. Apple TV+ has released a comedy series based on a video game development studio that continuously improves the most popular MMORPG in the world — Mythic Quest. Despite the opening, cheesy format, we have a new comedy series that needs to stay for future instalments. The series is original content that gamers needed. It will be duly appreciated and although we still do not have that critically acclaimed video game adaptation, this Apple TV+ series will please the industry.

Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet intensifies the corporate shenanigans of a gaming development studio. It ranges from the narcissism of the higher-level executives to the low-level testers and apprentices. It exemplifies the pressure that is bestowed upon the employees to keep fresh content on the roadmap, while on the one hand arguing over the smallest of details, like a shovel. It’s written with the purest irony, with genuine laugh-out-loud moments that encourage you to slide through each chapter with ease.

The Apple TV+ series is a comedy version of the actual reality of what businesses go through every day.

Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet demonstrates the intricacies of human conditioning; the opening episodes reveal how a single content creator on what is presumably YouTube can sway the reputation of a game. Executives cling on to hope that patch releases are add-ons met with praise. The series defines the world today of how content creators and their audiences are the real customers — we are no longer retail-driven, we are sold on endorsement by people we relate to.

The characters are to be enjoyed in Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet. There is not one that truly stands out and takes the centre stage. Ranging from relationship problems to power struggles to misunderstanding how the Human Resources department works, the Apple TV+ series clicks together based on genuine writing and an urgency to understand the corporate gaming world we live in today.

And to add, I mentioned that gamers will appreciate Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet season 1, but non-gamers will lap up the comedy series as well. If you have not got an Apple TV+ subscription yet, well this might be the time to get one.
