Summary

The Letter for the King season 1, episode 6, “When the Blood Moon Rises” is a feeble, weak finale and it does not encourage a second season.

This recap of Netflix Series The Letter for the King season 1, episode 6, “When the Blood Moon Rises” contains significant spoilers.

Okay, so here is the finale — did it impress? Did it turn it around at the last obstacle? Absolutely not. The Letter for the King season 1, episode 6, “When the Blood Moon Rises” gets upset and rides off when Lavinia learns she is the one with the powers. Tiuri insists they have to deliver the letter. Lavinia tells Tiuri to forget about the powers, and that she is not interested before riding off again.

I have to admit, I felt she was being selfish at this point.

Fantumar updates Viridian; he explains how “the boy” took them all down with one look. Jabroot says “the boy” is growing stronger. Viridian seems unphased, saying the moon is getting stronger, he can feel it. Later, Queen Alianor enters Viridian’s tend and looks around. Viridian enters his tent and he can tell someone has snooped. Viridian sees Alianor and her eyes turn black.

Tiuri, who has lost Lavinia, gets upset with his horse, saying it picked the wrong person. He ends up sitting with some men at a campfire, drinking beer for some reason, and the Novices find him.

Arman apologizes to Tiuri and he realizes now that loads of people are going to die. Tiuri says his father is already dead and that he died by Arman’s father’s sword. Tiuri tells Arman to go to Lavinia for help but Arman resists — “So what if Lavinia has powers,” and tells Tiuri he is the one who has got them this far.

I completely forgot that Fantumar is Aman’s father, so why wasn’t Tiuri bothered by this sooner?

Tiuri has a new plan to deliver the letter — they go through the sewer system under Unuawen. Tiuri and the Novices leave the sewer system and they are confronted instantly but Iona springs from nowhere and helps them. Tiuri is fickle and forgives Iona, giving her a hug, but it turns out Iona is still working for the Red Riders, and she takes the letter off him.

Meanwhile, Viridian enters King Favian’s hall. King Favian hugs Prince Viridian. Viridian also greets his brother and they all sit down to eat. The moon continues to rise.

Tiuri and his group decide to fight Jaro, Iona, and the Red Knights. They manage to get the letter back but unfortunately, Novice Jussipo is stabbed brutally.

Tiuri enters the King’s Hall and all eyes are on him. He approaches King Favian and tells him the black Knight was killed trying to deliver the letter and was slaughtered by Prince Viridian’s men. Tiuri insists they are all in danger if Favian does not read this letter.

And here is the turning point; Favian reads the letter and looks back at his son Viridian and says, “Treachery’. Viridian says the power has to be his. He says the decisions are now to be made by him — “Freedom is over too and the world will have peace at last. A peace that will last forever”. Viridian’s brother draws a sword and he fights Viridian. The brother stabs Viridian and he falls to the floor and looks at the moon — as he falls the blood rises from him and he rises in the air: “It is done”. Viridian has become darkness. Tiuri looks back at all the panicked people.

And then predictably… Lavinia enters the hall smiling at Tiuri. She approaches Viridian with Tiuri and says she is scared. Tiuri holds Lavinia’s hand. Lavinia glows and uses her powers on Viridian who is now darkness. It doesn’t seem to be working, as Viridian starts shrouding Tiuri in darkness.

Lavinia works harder at her powers. Viridian asks Lavinia to stop but she destroys him. Afterward, Lavinia faints and Tiuri holds her.

Tiuri and Lavinia go to see Jusssipo and he slowly dies. They all bury him outside and have a small funeral. Iona tells Jaro that he made a mess out of the situation but they make a great team.

The Letter for the King season 1, episode 6, “When the Blood Moon Rises” ends with Queen Alianor giving a speech to the town and says the darkness was caused by all of us but the Novices led them to the light — she knights them all. In the distance, a flock of birds swirls with eerie music suggesting the darkness has not left.

The main issue with this Netflix series is that it is immaturely written and performed, and did not build up the tension with the villain who had a very quick ending. Do not make Season 2.
