Trailer Talk – Star Wars: The Last Jedi “Awake”

Can you feel it? Star Wars Episode 8 is quickly approaching and Lucasfilm and Disney gave us another teaser trailer for The Last Jedi. As I’m typing this I’m rewatching it for what must  be the 30th time. Trying to contain my excitement about Luke stepping back into the cockpit of the Falcon. Wow, what a powerful scene.

Here we go..

We have been gifted great glimpses of the film. Tons of scenes have fans theorizing and chomping at the bit for any hints of information on the upcoming film. A major theory spreading through the fanbase is of Rey turning to the Dark Side. Yeah, Dark Side gets the capitalized treatment here. Anyway, this theory is becoming more and more likely; in the final shot, after Luke says “this is not going to go the way you think,” we see Rey standing over Luke, almost menacingly, and raising her lightsaber.

Will she land a final blow? There’s no way, right? I can’t help but think this is an editing trick playing at the most popular theory on the internet. Perhaps Luke’s quote is literally telling us, “don’t worry, Rey doesn’t cut my other hand off and everything is ok I promise.”

But if it does play out that way we think? Well done, Lucasfilm.

“First you had my curiosity, but now, you have my attention,” and such.

And the rest..

The rest of the trailer is just exploding with great scenes. We see Finn piloting and another look at his showdown with Captain Phasma (side note: please let her have a better role in this one, I will call this a win if she does anything worth noting.)

Moreover, we have some TIE-fighters chasing down the Falcon, a fantastic shot of AT-AT’s on their way to a party, I think, I don’t know I didn’t see the movie yet, and, hell, why not some more of that dang porg. Speaking of which, I, for one, welcome our new porg overlords. Overall, they are giving us just enough to get everyone talking, but no one really knows what the hell is going on.

That kind of secrecy is an art I think is lost with most studios releasing very revealing trailers in this day and age. You’ll be able to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi when it releases on December 15th. Get your tickets soon because this has the makings to be the best in the series.

But you can check out the newest trailer right now! That’s something right?
