Memories of Alhambra episode 4 tv recap

Summary

Memories of the Alhambra episode 4 is a little lacklustre, failing to progress or develop major plot points leaving the viewer believing it is a filler.

This recap of Memories of the Alhambra Season 1, Episode 4, contains spoilers. You can check out our thoughts on the previous episode by clicking these words.

I must apologise for my brief break from covering Memories of the Alhambra. Unfortunately, most of my week has consisted of migrating the website, with the week ending in a state of intoxication as my work’s Christmas do went into full throttle mode, making me live with at least 24 hours of regret. I am back though, so there is nothing like Memories of the Alhambra episode 4 to consume in my miserable dry-mouthed state as I nurse this stewing hangover.

As we learned last week, after tracking down ex-business partner Cha Hyung-seok (Park Hoon), Yoo Jin-woo (Hyun Bin) realizes that after their dual his foe slumped on the park bench and eventually died. What’s more intriguing is that’s it difficult to know at this point if the ultra-realistic augmented reality game is playing tricks on the main protagonist’s mind.

Overall, Memories of the Alhambra episode 4 was not a great episode in the slightest, almost acting like a filler to prolong the shock of Mr. Cha dying after events in the game. Most of the installment sees Yoo Jin-woo ponder miserably around Granada, yet the audience wanted more digging into the augmented reality game and answers to the death of the ex-business partner. Technically, at this point Yoo Jin-woo murdered him via the forms of gaming; what will be the repercussions?

Jung Hee-joo (Shin-Hye Park) spends most of the episode gloating and wondering what to buy after the wealthy buy-out of her hostel. She has a sexual interest in Yoo Jin-woo, as she scours google images to see photos of him, why she was caught red-handed by the same man himself. Strangely though, their chemistry does not yet resonate through the screen; most likely an issue with the writing of the episodes with their jumbled approach.

Interestingly, Cha Hyung-seok (Park Hoon) does keep showing up, all bloodied as a non-player character haunting Yoo Jin-woo, and the preview of the next episode sees the CEO trying to attain more answers.

Oh by the way, if you want to continue my extended coverage of Korean series, check out my review of Hymn of Death. Anyway, I’ll speak to you in the next recap.
