I admit, after the last episode, I was getting a little impatient with Memories of the Alhambra. It reeked off repetitiveness, not moving the story an inch for the audience. Memories of the Alhambra episode 7 jumped forward a year, placing our characters in a different place in time, deepening their story so the augmented reality game plot can breathe. Chapter 7 was a step up, and finally there is an ultimate objective again, which to be fair was how this series started in the first place.

But before we get into the details of where the series is heading, a year later Yoo Jin-woo (Hyun Bin) is off the map, rumored to have tried to commit suicide, a drunk and brain dead; rumors are circulating while Cha Hyung-seok’s (Park Hoon) memorial is in process. And like Willy Wonka, Yoo Jin-woo walks into the church with a walking stick, moving slowly to find his space on one of the benches.

It’s useful to know that Jin-woo is still having Cha Hyung-seok attack him over and over again in the game, but on his return to the company, you find out his assistant can also see the deceased business partner. Is it a game glitch? After some episodes of telling a story of potential mental breakdowns and hallucinations, Yoo Jin-woo may have found a breakthrough.

It’s quite amusing to see that during Yoo Jin-woo’s breakdown, he managed to attain a high level in the game where modern weapons are possible, using them to protect himself easily again Mr. Cha.

Meanwhile, in Memories of the Alhambra episode 7 Jung Hee-joo is living a wealthy life with her happy grandmother. She receives emails from her brother, the person who developed the game and has been missing ever since. Yoo Jin-woo decides to meet her, and to his shock, she confesses she knows the emails are not from her brother, but from his assistant and asks why he has deceived her.

It seems the series is heading into another investigation into the whereabouts of the game developer, and he surely holds the key to the glitch that continues to haunt Yoo Jin-woo, but will he be able to patch old wounds with Jung Hee-joo? Time will tell.
