Summary
Charmed episode 13, “Touched by a Demon” is a filler episode, but refreshingly more direct than the previous chapters.
As soon as I realised that Episode 14, “Touched by a Demon”, was a filler episode I rolled my eyes. Here we go. But like all trash TV, at times it can surprise you, and this instalment in the rebooted Charmed series knew how to enjoy itself. Episode 14 felt more direct, focused, instead of the convoluted chapters we have experienced before us.
Recovering from the previous episode Mel (Melonie Diaz) is tending to Jada’s wound after a suspected “witch hunt” attack. Jada thinks Mel’s ex has joined the “witch hunt” group, but she is not convinced of the conspiracy. Jada explains to Mel that Nico would not have re-entered her life if the Elders gave you a more advanced smokescreen spell. “Touched by a Demon” helps deepen Mel’s resistance to the Elders.
Episode 14 sees Parker and Maggie (Sarah Jeffery) try and have sex for the first time after their predictable reconciliation. Expected sex turns to confusion, as an energy blast seemingly from Maggie’s crotch area blasts Parker to the other side of the room. Confiding with Macy (Madeleine Mantock), they suspect her fear of getting hurt by Parker again is conjuring an automated spell.
While Macy is explaining her theory of sex and energy blasts, she doesn’t realise she is melting her hand on a hot hob. Harry (Rupert Evans) reveals that her demon-like features are coming through, thickening her sick and numbing her pain receptors.
And that’s when Episode 14, “Touched by a Demon” turns into a filler; Macy decides to watch guilty-pleasure TV to take her mind off her worries, and as she relaxes she pours an escape potion accidentally on the Wi-Fi router, opening a portal to the 80s TV show she was watching; two misogynistic men enter the real world as their characters and a vampire. Charmed turns into a multi-verse, where a fantasy story infiltrates a fantasy story.
Mel and Jada meet Nico to infiltrate the witch hunters. They find out Nico is engaged; you can tell Mel is bothered about the whole scenario, and Jada is flagrantly jealous. Regardless, they have an entertaining fight with the witch hunters, who had zero chance of succeeding the witches.
The entire multi-verse scenario gets stranger, as the TV characters decide they like their new existence and throw Harry and Macy into the TV show. They have 15 minutes left of the show’s series finale to return to the real world, or they will be trapped in that reality forever. They shout at the ceiling asking Maggie and Mel to help them. After much divulging into the show by Macy, they finally achieve a new portal, and they return to the real world, with the two men willingly returning to their TV show. Emergency averted.
Episode 14, “Touched by a Demon” ends with Parker and Maggie both able to accept their feelings, and have sex, but during it, Parker’s powers activate and they end up below the house in a strange basement. A woman I do not recognise shoots up; however, I was not aware of who she was, unfortunately. Macy explains to her sisters that she wants to use the Elders to help her with her demon problems, but Mel disagrees and states she does not want to be a part of it.
