Turn Up Charlie Episode 4 felt a bit lackluster compared to the rest of the episodes so far. It felt like the story was complete, with no real reason to move on to the fifth episode. David (JJ Feild) and Sara (Piper Perabo) are taking a weekend break away to have some quality time together, while Charlie (Idris Elba) is doing a set to a lifeless nightclub with Gabby (Frankie Hervey) supporting him.
Turn Up Charlie Episode 4 provided a small breakthrough for Charlie; an agent speaks to him at the dead night club and asks him to mix a song and put it on Soundcloud. Gabby is adamant that he should do this so that he can submit his song in the early morning meeting. Charlie is bugged by the digital era, wondering why he could not use a USB stick instead of uploading his tune to Soundcloud.
Sara and David’s weekend away was ruined by the fact that David could not get an erection – it’s clear the pair have issues to iron out, but David blames it on England and the weather. Meanwhile, Charlie is struggling to create his tune, and Sara’s executive’s digital ways are making him feel insecure. He decides to smoke a spliff in a sauna in one of them instead, and Gabby’s friend senses that they were having sex.
Turn Up Charlie Episode 4 ends with Gabby supporting Charlie to finish his tune; Sara listens to it and is half-impressed, offering to put time aside to work on it. David has received a call from his agent, asking him to take a landmark deal back in America. As things are looking up for Charlie, David and Sara are on the rocks.
