Fox Searchlight has released a Lucy in the Sky teaser trailer, the first bit of extended marketing for the upcoming and anticipated Noah Hawley drama. You can check out Lucy in the Sky Teaser Trailer #1 below:
You might recognize the name Noah Hawley from such good shows as Fargo and such smug ones as Legion, a tortuously abstract exercise in self-indulgence that contorts a simple narrative into a flashy phallus, ready to pipe itself off for two whole seasons. But don’t mind me. Lucy in the Sky stars Natalie Portman complete with an unflattering period hairdo and the trailer promises smug surrealist visuals that’ll no doubt irritate me and be beloved by everyone else.
Here, have a synopsis:
In LUCY IN THE SKY, Natalie Portman plays astronaut Lucy Cola, who returns to Earth after a transcendent experience during a mission to space – and begins to lose touch with reality in a world that now seems too small.
Lucy Cola? I’m already annoyed.
Fox Searchlight are being predictably tight-lipped about an official release date, but it’ll be sometime this year. The film also stars Jon Hamm, Dan Stevens, Zazie Beetz, Ellen Burstyn, and Pearl Amanda Dickson. There’s also apparently a loose historical basis on the illicit love affair of real-life astronaut Lisa Nowak, but it’s probably best to take that with a pinch of salt.
Hawley and Portman both have legions (sorry) of fans, so Lucy in the Sky might well be a hit. I’m sure we can all collectively hope that the film is as clever as it thinks it is, as there’s no doubt that’ll it consider itself to be very clever indeed. In the meantime, let us know what you think. Noah Hawley handling a feature film? Natalie Portman with a bob? Yay or nay? The jury remains out on the matter.
