We have established that The OA season 2 has a similar but freer environment for Prairie Johnson (Brit Marling) and her group, but still controlled by Dr Hap (Jason Isaacs), who is known simply as Dr Hunter Percy in the new dimension. In “Treasure Island”, He theorizes that in the previous dimension when they had a near-death experience, they were merely glimpsing another person’s reality. Prairie is more concerned about Homer (Emory Cohen), who it seems never crossed over to his alter self.

Dr. Hap hasn’t changed in his new environment, ensuring that Prairie is sedated, drugged and on high watch within her cell. But the new Homer appears to take an interest in her, due to the claims that they knew each other for years in a locked cage. He decides to allow Prairie out in the public space where she can mingle with the other patients. The reunion is complete with the others in the group, sealed with emotional embraces. Rachel (Sharon Van Etten) has a theory, but due to her alter-self’s car accident she cannot speak, so uses various objects to describe what is happening. Before Dr. Hap restrains everyone, Prairie concludes that Rachel’s theory is that he is creating an inter-dimensional map.

The OA Season 2 Episode 2 Recap Treasure Island

Karim Washington (Kingsley Ben-Adir) delves deeper into the mystery in “Treasure Island”, tracking down one of the girls who was in the room of children whispering into microphones. His detective strength leads him to Rose, a woman who quit Pierre Ruskin’s (Vincent Kartheiser) establishment at the same time Michelle disappears. He uses an acquaintance, with hacking abilities to find her address. According to Rose, Pierre Ruskin’s experiment is trying to find ways to find matches in collective dreams, which led to a house with a tall staircase and specific glass window – a house that is owned by a Russian Trust headed by Nina Azarova.

“Treasure Island” ends with the reveal that Rachel has become Dr. Hap’s assistant in his new secret laboratory. She keeps looking into a room, the contents of which he is adamant she would not want to see. He uses medical tools on the insane man that jumped out of Nina Azarova’s house and extracted a long green lace. As he hypothesises, Rachel opens the door to the other room, shocked by what she sees. The audience does not get the pleasure to witness what she saw and after a violent altercation, Dr. Hap accidentally kills her.

The camera zooms into her eye, and then enters I presume another dimension. There is a young child in their bedroom. Their parent shouts “Michelle”, but they respond with “I’m not Michelle, I am Buck”, who we are familiar with from season one. The OA Season 2 continues to deepen the layers, giving us more questions than answers.
