Episode 4, “SYZYGY”, sees the characters in the new dimension split off from each other, discovering their story and what paths they may take. Now Karim Washington (Kingsley Ben-Adir) is on the right leads; he visits Treasure Island to talk to Prairie Johnson (Brit Marling). His cynical mind lasts a while as she tries convincing him that she is from a different world, and Dr. Hap (Jason Isaacs) is not to be trusted. When Karim starts talking about the house and the intricate link to the children and the game, her reaction to the conversation convinces him that he needs to break out. In a rushed effort, they manage to escape the mental facility unscathed.

In the aftermath, Homer (Emory Cohen) is struggling with the scenario he faces with Prairie. I think a part of him is starting to believe the group’s story involving the other dimension. The character gives off a sense that he is looking for something worth living for in life; you can feel it stripping off him. He confronts Scott Brown (Will Brill) and the others, trying to clarify the situation and convince himself that it isn’t true.

Despite his worries about Prairie on the loose, Dr. Hap finds a woman who he quickly becomes interested in while bathing in a sauna. She recognizes that he is from a different dimension, which sets him back. She is not from the world they are in either, and she’s managed to find a way to cross dimensions using a different technique. Dr. Hap seems more relaxed that he has found someone more in common with him, with the escaped Prairie slowly relaxing at the back of his mind.

The OA Season 2 Episode 4 Recap SYZYGY

Prairie and Karim go to Nina Azarova’s house, but the obvious issue is that Prairie does not know the codes to enter the secret room. After Karim starts distracting her, explaining a story to get her mind to wander, she remembers a passcode and they manage to enter a secluded office, which holds hundreds of tapes. They find out about SYZYGY, which turns out to be a club. She is scheduled to attend that night, so she rings her house staff and asks them to assist her and Karim to take her there. When she gets changed while practicing her Russian accent, she briefly looks in the mirror, seeing her alternate self. When she walks out in a red dress, Karim remembers a vision of seeing her on the side of the road and due to the distraction he falls off a high cliff.

At the club, it’s clear that it is Russian operated. Prairie is swiftly moved to the back, where they prepare her for a show. She is unaware of what this show is, but they claim every time she performs she gets nervous. As the curtains draw, a large creature with various tentacles latches on to her and speaks to her using their minds. The creature manages to convince Prairie to tell the audience that she is the OA, before declaring she will kill her for 37 seconds. Luckily Karim is there and he brings her back to life.

“SYZYGY” concludes with Prairie and Karim getting away from the club and reaching a green door and one that is recognized from the game. They give each other a brief look before walking in, and it shuts quickly behind them.
