Summary

You start to wonder what’s the point of Black Summer, as Episode 4, “Alone”, shows one of the characters finding ways to get away from zombies. Is this it?

Jesus Christ, at this point my recaps will sound as repetitive as the series; Black Summer Episode 4, “Alone”, served only to demonstrate what has happened to the survivors that have split from the group. Sun and William are aimlessly distancing themselves from zombies, but this chapter is mostly about Lance (Kelsey Flower), and how incredibly stupid he is.

Lance meanders around in Episode 4 after being left in the school that has been taken over by strange children that haven’t taken the apocalypse well. There’s an odd scene where he tries to calm himself down by reading a book, and I could not be bothered scoping in to see what he was reading, but then he cowers on the floor, hugging the book — Lance does not seem equipped for this apocalyptic scenario; the last thing you need to do is embrace a book.

Anyway, he decides that it will be a grand idea to climb to the school roof, but despite his tactical movements, everything Lance does seems to be spur of the moment rather than a window of opportunity. He climbs down the school pipes, and gets chased away by a zombie; one of the children shoots one of their own off the roof — it’s safe to say, none of these adults will be returning to this area.

Lance tries to be resourceful in “Alone”, entering an abandoned supermarket to gather supplies, but unfortunately, a zombie is lurking around, and rather than patiently trying to get out of the store, he lures it towards him. There is this hilarious scene where he believes climbing on top of a school bus is a bright idea, only to find that the zombie can also climb.

In the end, a random man kills the zombie for him, but Lance notices he is bitten; Lance thanks him then proceeds to kill the person who saved his life.
