Summary

The characters are more bedded in, but The Society Episode 2, “Our Town”, throws plenty of stories at the audience, melting their brains.

So now we have a sense of what The Society is all about, a series primarily about a strange event, bringing teenagers together so audiences can experience the usual drama. Episode 2, “Our Town”, moves forward 10 days, with Becca (Gideon Adlon) narrating how everything is settling, but some of the teenagers cling on to hope that something will change. “Our Town” is a slightly more stable episode, with the characters more bedded in than the convoluted Episode 1.

A solar eclipse darkens the town. Following from the last chapter, Luke (Alex MacNicoll) is beating himself up over Emily’s death, but it’s okay, Helena (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) quickly seduces him in a way to comfort him – teenage problems.

There are a lot of overreactive hormones at play in Episode 2, with Harry (Alex Fitzalan) wanting Kelly (Kristine Froseth) to join him at the Fugitive party, but his advances fail, with Kelly choosing to go to the supermarket instead to help Will (Jacques Colimon) count the food stock which irritates Harry. Elle (Olivia DeJonge) is also looking lonely, with Campbell (Toby Wallace) snooping around her like a creep. Allie (Kathryn Newton) also likes Will as well, but has a side eye for Harry – lots of varying love triangles in “Our Town”.

The Love Island theme continues with Gordie taking extra care of Cassandra (Rachel Keller), checking her heartbeat, and carefully moving his hand over his breast. Allie believes Cassandra is manipulating him. Later on in Episode 2, Cassandra tells Gordie (José Julián) not to worry about her.

Finally, The Society reverts to the main story. Campbell and his brother find letters in the Town Hall about a refusal to make payments to get rid of the smell, and it all links to their family. Campbell is extremely mean to his brother, ripping up the letters – he does not want this chaos to stop.

The game of Fugitive finally arrives in “Our Town”, which is cops and robbers, with one group in cars (police) and the others trying to hide (criminals). To Harry’s surprise Allie shows up, and in a moment of madness, she gets run over. She strangely enjoys it, the rush of adrenaline glazing over her.

And then there are a few scenes of teenagers hooking up; Will tries to kiss Kelly but she rejects him on this occasion, stating it’s too early; Harry tries to kiss Allie but she doesn’t wholly embrace it, before eventually sleeping with him; Elle and Campbell end up hanging out, and she gets annoyed at his persistence of picking her all the time, but he explains they have a lot in common, reducing them to having no friends – they play a weird game which involves touching themselves. Sex seems to be a topic in Episode 2 it seems, as Becca finds out she is pregnant.

With all the partying and lack of care in the community, the lights begin dimming suggesting that the electricity is going to run out soon. Also, Gordie was wrong about the Solar Eclipse because the next one is scheduled in 2024; he makes a new theory that they are on a different planet, and gives a multi-verse spin to it.

“Our Town” ends with the town in absolute chaos and brawling, with the leading group looking on. Now that I think about it, Episode 2 of The Society was not a great episode at all.
