Easy Season 3, Episode 2, “Private Eyes”, nearly becomes a nothing chapter, but once the comedy shines through, it’s enjoyable. Hugh, the lead character, is a person who takes his life very seriously. Probably too seriously, managing to trip over his words on dates, overthinking the moments and in the end, turning the woman off. Hugh works at a security store, and his wholehearted approach to tasks makes the audience wonder whether he desires to be unique.

And that question is answered early on in “Private Eyes” when his manager gives him an investigative assignment to follow someone’s husband. It’s clearly not a significant deal, but he treats it as if his whole life depends on it, while also making sure he is not late on his date.

But Hugh’s best opportunity comes when he is tasked to become a submissive at a BDSM party with his investigator partner being the dominant. We get the sense of what type of character Hugh is, asking for manuals from his boss about how to carry out BDSM, which receives a laidback response of “just google it”.

Hugh nervously follows through with the BDSM party and ensuring that they achieve the investigative work. “Private Eyes” demonstrates a character out of his depth, but managing to adapt to a situation he is sincerely interested in. At the same time, it’s almost like his boss disrespects his intelligence, stating that any BDSM assignment will go to him. Hugh is the idiot of the group, but he doesn’t seem to think that he is.

“Private Eyes” will not be the most glowing chapter of Easy Season 3, but it’s certainly one that will amuse.
