Dreamworks have landed the Abominable trailerand as you can tell by the title, it will involve cold landscapes and a giant Yeti for good measure. From the people who brought us How to Train Your Dragoncomes another story involving a young kid trying to adventure through the world. Here is the trailer:

And just in case you do not sense the premise, here is the plot summary from Wikipedia:

When teenage Yi encounters a young Yeti on the roof of her apartment building in Shanghai, she and her mischievous friends, Jin and Peng, name him “Everest” and embark on an epic quest to reunite the magical creature with his family at the highest point on Earth.

But the trio of friends will have to stay one-step ahead of Burnish, a wealthy man intent on capturing a Yeti, and zoologist Dr. Zara to help Everest get home.

You’ll notice at the start of the Abominable trailer that Yi is tired of being in the clutches of adulthood, and yearns to go out into the world. There looks to be a theme of coming-of-age in the Dreamworks animation that will shine through in the story. Of course, the ultimate story is helping the Yeti get home back to its original habitat, and assuming it does weird magical things?

I’m still curious about what magical powers this Yeti may have, and how it will help Yi on the adventure. It does have that similar look of How to Train Your Dragon with a reliance on the landscape when traveling with the Yeti, but that’s to be expected when from the same studio. With Toy Story 4 out this year, the question remains whether movies like this will stay under its shadow until release, but we cannot grumble if we find more excuses to go to the cinemas with the kids and spend our mortgage on popcorn.
