Directed by André Øvredal (The Autopsy of Jane Doe) comes the first official trailer of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, based on the children’s book series of the same name by Alvin Schwartz.

Since CBS Films acquired the rights in 2013, Guillermo del Toro was asked to develop the project, with the potential to direct, however, he became the story producer.

Cast: Zoe Colletti, Michael Garza, Austin Abrams, Gabriel Rush, Austin Zajur, Natalie Ganzhorn, and Dean Norris.

If you were still awake, you might remember Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark getting an opportunistic slot at Super Bowl LIII, but this is the first official trailer since. Here is the trailer:

The film is set to be released in August this year. The trailer does give off the Stranger Things / IT vibe that tends to be trending at present in pop culture, but conceptually, with Guillermo del Toro’s writing behind it, we might be set for a decent horror movie.

Premise (courtesy of Wikipedia): It’s 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind…but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time—stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying time.

The first official trailer of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark does toy with the innocence of children, but the first look markedly does not offer any insight into how horrific this horror will be. I guess we will find out in August, and we will keep you posted until then!
