Summary

Netflix series Yummy Mummies Season 2 proves we are all losing our minds, with reality TV accepting low standards to entertain zombies.

Netflix series Yummy Mummies Season 2 was released on the platform on July 3, 2019.

We are in trouble. We are. There is no denying that there’s a majority of people who commute to work every day, sweat in their reused working clothes, return home, make a quick beans on toast dinner, put their comfortable clothes on, grace the couch with their day sweat, open up Netflix and put on Yummy Mummies season 2. But the question is, why? Why are we becoming sadly accustomed to low standards? The early days of Big Brother were refreshingly original, but we sold our soul to the devil and spat out Love Island and Selling Sunset.

We are too easily pleased by placing our brain in the default melting position and consuming deplorable trash-TV. We aspire to be reality stars who only seek clicks to pander to their low self-esteem, fake entrepreneurs who claim to have made it so they can place a strikingly wealthy image on Instagram, and YouTubers who create fake drama to increase their views due to their dwindling Social Blade. Fans of Yummy Mummies season 2 will undoubtedly argue that the manufactured Netflix series is designed to educate audiences on the traumas and highs of motherhood. But is that true? Do we need to see a group of wealthy women make decisions about what expensive champagne they need to drink once their baby is born? Do we need to witness the father purchase a $100k engagement ring, basing his price range on the weight of his baby?

What about the mother sat at home watching Yummy Mummies season 2? Seriously, what about her? Wouldn’t a Netflix series based on a mother living in average housing, sleep-deprived while keeping her newborn alive, while the father leaves the house to go to work every day, leaving the mother to time her next window of opportunity to be able to go to the toilet, make a more compelling series? What about when she believes she is doing a lousy job, and her family reassure her she’s doing fantastic? What a touching moment that would be. Lavish baby showers, new housing and preparing for the next baby because you have the finances to do so is not the realistic outcome of the everyday mother. The definition of reality is essential, and like those Instagrammers who portray a perfect life, this is not real.

But, at the same time, I do not blame the participants. They are taking advantage of a world that consumes TV like zombies, drooling from their mouth every night, aimlessly trying to hit the bottom of that Doritos bag at 10 pm, before lethargically going to bed with cheese breath. Good for them for making this into a niche. We have to hustle and make a mark in the world, and for these beautiful mothers, they’ve made their lifestyle into a money generator. I respect that. Yummy Mummies season 2 is an unnecessary continuation, but I do not doubt that there will be a third season.
