Summary

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power returns to our screens with gumption as the show demonstrates with flair and imagination that anything can be achieved through the power of friendship!

Returning to our screens is the third installment of Netflix’s hit original cartoon She-Ra and the Princess of Power. Based on the 1985 Filmation cartoon, She-Ra: Princess of Power, Netflix took it upon themselves to transform this iconic role for the modern-day audience. This retelling of the hero She-Ra focuses on themes of friendship, solidarity, and harmony. Set on the planet Etheria, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power Season 3 focuses on the close friendship of Adora, aka She-Ra, lovable softy Bow, and the passionately motivated Glimmer. The three friends work together to save Etheria from the evil presence of the Horde, a menacing power with only one mission: to rule over the planet and its occupants.

In She-Ra and the Princesses of Power Season 3, Adora and friends re-unite in order to face Catra, a long-time frenemy of Adora as she works to overthrow the Princess Alliance, a team called upon to defeat the Horde. Although this time around Adora begins to question her loyalty to the Princess Alliance as she comes to terms with the power of She-Ra. Facing the moral dilemma of freedom and responsibility Adora struggles to find where she belongs and questions her own commitment to a power she didn’t ask for.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power Season 3 is exciting, adorable and meaningful just as I had expected. The show continues to explore progressive themes that question and highlight important topics. Bringing younger audiences a fine example of a TV series that succeeds in never really making a villain out of anyone, not even the bad guys. To some, this may seem ridiculous in the face of a good vs evil story arc but alternatively, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power just offers an emphatic look into the motivation of all sides. She-Ra and the Princesses of Power Season 3 lends its episodes to the exploration of personal history and the importance of understanding different perspectives.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power Season 3 invites audiences to learn the lore and legends of She-Ra. We become privy to the origin tale of our beloved princess and discover more about the dark history of the Horde. With new characters and locations, viewers will be pleased to see She-Ra and the Princesses of Power remains creative and original with its colorful and imaginative design. The new characters add an abundance of life to what was already a playful and jam-packed world of adventure. Needless to say, your favorite characters are also back to deliver their unique eccentricities and charm to the ever growing universe of She-Ra. Also dedicated fans will be glad to know that the ever-present ‘hints’ and nods to the fan-bases own ‘ships’ and pairings are not forgotten about in the new season.

Most importantly She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is a marvelous platform that is used to truly push the idea of self-care and friendship. Only adding to the narrative, the characters frequently discuss ways to support one another and reaffirm the idea that no one has to face their problems alone. Even the ‘villains’ have support networks and encourage each other to face their emotions and issues in a healthy way. She-Ra and the Princesses of Power Season 3 almost becomes an advocate for mental health and well being. The show is undeniably warm and fuzzy and the unrelenting affection the characters have is strangely infectious and motivating. She-Ra and the Princesses of Power offers villains who are complex and almost endearing in their ‘evil’ motives, a refreshingly different approach than most children/young adult shows. This one doesn’t aim to simplify it’s antagonists and instead offers the audience the chance to review and understand there is more than just ‘good’ and ‘bad’.

Overall She-Ra and the Princesses of Power Season 3 is just as delightful and radiant as it’s previous seasons. Intimate relationships grow and the plots becomes thicker as the three friends Adora, Bow, and Glimmer face their most difficult foe yet: their own insecurities. As a platform of positivity She-Ra and the Princesses of Power absolutely is a must-watch for anyone in need of a bit of friendly sincerity. The show has an essence of youthful life and joy that is tantalisingly clever and quite often spontaneously funny with its off the cuff one-liners and physical comedy. I highly recommend fans of the show to return for season 3 as you will fall in love with those you know all over again and come to adore the ones you don’t. For those unfamiliar with She-Ra and the Princesses of Power I can only hope you allow yourself the opportunity to indulge in a show that affectionately wraps you up with the pleasantly gooey ideals of love, friendship and solidarity.
