“Say Yes” introduces Russell to the third season. He visits Vegas to see Ruth, and initially, she seems pumped by his arrival. She’s talking about the future and the possibility of finding a place together. In hindsight, maybe she sounded too eager. It was comical when Sam recommended them both to go to the same steak place. I think Sam knows that there’s something unique between him and Sam, so he is biding his time. You have to admire his patience.
And then Episode 4 sees Ruth beginning to feel on edge; while in a shop, she sees some engagement rings and starts trying them on. The shopkeeper encourages them both to engage, but Ruth opts to buy Russell an expensive camera instead. Russell says the one sentence he never should have blurted – “what if we break up and you’ve bought me a very expensive camera?” — Russell, you are giving her away. But then again, he can probably sense that something is off with her.
As for Sheila, she has decided to pursue acting. Making Sam aware, she reads his screenplay and honestly criticises it much to his dislike. “Say Yes” shows how sensitive Sam is becoming over this new idea of his.
Sheila’s reading Sam’s screenplay felt irrelevant, that’s until on a night out at a Drag Queen performance, Ruth finds out and starts asking a lot of questions. Moments later, Ruth and Russell are in an argument about her behaviour; he accuses her of being on edge with the talks of engagements and getting an apartment together — he also accuses Ruth of being obsessed with Sam.
We learnt the last episode that Cherry no longer wants children, which forces Keith to pack his bags and leave; Debbie checks in on her and gets extremely high. She openly admits that she sometimes wishes she never had a baby, before telling Cherry the number of men she’s slept with since arriving in Vegas.
GLOW Season 3, Episode 4, “Say Yes” ends with Russell and Ruth seeming to end on good terms, negotiating the number of times a week they call, but as he drives off, Ruth’s expression says it all. Will she even see him again?
- The production team needs a new referee while Keith is AWOL.
- Bash keeps on hiring magicians and showmen during the episode but becomes irked when he invites a Drag Queen round to his room to have a drink with him and Rhonda. The Drag Queen indirectly implies that he believed Bash is gay.
- Sheila has a new idol — the Drag Queen. Will Sheila make performing in Vegas full time?
