Well, here we are, a season after Hannah’s memorial, we are treated to Bryce’s funeral, where Ani uncovers secrets about the Walker family. It’s strange how much Bryce has affected our narrator; she grieves Bryce and his family, but almost silently amongst her peers. We learn at the funeral that the Mustang at Walker’s house is Tony’s.
Bryce’s father Barry turns up in Episode 6, acting like it is some kind of social event, diverting Clay’s attention from Tony to Barry. Flashbacks reveal that Barry found reasons not to spend time with his son, and Bryce repeatedly defended his mother passionately, at one point kicking Barry out of the house. “You Can Tell the Heart of a Man by How He Grieves” shows that Bryce and his mother did find common ground eventually, and he was becoming a better man.
The funeral is doused by protestors, and they are quickly ushered out — the shouts of “rapist” are what Bryce deserved. But what was telling is how the reality sank in of his death; his current and former friends at one point saw him as a brother, giving a sense of reality to what death means.
Meanwhile, Tony is at the police station for questioning over Bryce, and he requests a lawyer. We learn that Tony sold the Mustang to Bryce, encouraging Ani and Clay to believe he is innocent. The story then delves into Tony’s family, and how they were captured by ICE — a popular theme running within Netflix series’ at present. It greatly impacted his family, and Ani grieves not only for Bryce’s family but for Tony’s too. The fact that Tony negotiated with Bryce over fixing a car and buying the Mustang does not put him in a good position, mostly because he’s a principled man.
13 Reasons Why Season 3, Episode 6, “You Can Tell the Heart of a Man by How He Grieves” ends with the police reviewing CCTV footage of Clay pointing the gun at Bryce. He is the next suspect — there is a clear, predictable trend in this series.
