Episode 3 lumps the characters on unique journeys, muddled by their fate, searching for answers recklessly in this mad world of Thra. “What Was Sundered and Undone” laid down the scenario for our lead characters, setting their course gracefully.
Brea (Alice Dinnean) does not last long with the unsavoury new duties at the Order of Lesser Service. She has been tasked to clean a filthy podling village, scrubbing the dirtiest of places as a punishment. Her privileged life takes hold, and Brea flees. Later, Princess Tavra (Caitriona Balfe) finds her running away, but with news of the murder at The Castle of the Crystal, Brea goes on a new mission to steal the brightest jewel in the hope of finding the meaning of the symbol.
In terms of Deet (Nathalie Emmanuel) and Hup (Victor Yerrid), which oddly sounds like a spin-off CBeebies show, they venture to the Stonewood clan. Deet feels the pressure of stopping The Darkening. When they reach the clan, they are not welcoming, and it soon turns into a fight, resulting in Hup whisked away by guards. They refuse to let Deet see Maudra Fara (Lena Headey) to free Dup.
Rian (Taron Egerton) also turns up at the Stonewood clan in Episode 3 and begs Maudra Fara for help. But his father Ordon (Mark Strong) is there, and they believe the rumours started by the Skeksis; that Rian murdered Mira. Rian has to escape again bravely, and on his way out, his father nods at him with approval. Maybe he believes his son after all.
While the madness unfolds, Mother Aughra (Donna Kimball) visits the Skeksis. The Skeksis scold Aughra and claim that the Crystal is fine. After throwing Aughra out, she manages to see the Crystal, and it tells her what has happened since she decided to scour the Universe. Aughra now knows the truth, and the abuse laid on by the Skeksis.
As The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Season 1, Episode 3, “What Was Sundered and Undone” closes, Brea brings the brightest jewel to Elder Onica — the chrysalis is the answer as it forms a moth which flies away. She follows the moth which takes her to a secret passage beneath the throne.
