Good news and bad opens The Hockey Girls Episode 8. Leila (Yasmina Drissi) and Nil kiss, which is good, but her parents want to start her on medication for her ADHD, which, given research and such, is invariably bad.
But exams are fast approaching, and Laila’s lack of focus is a problem. The looming tests are a problem for everyone else, too, since Terrats (Nora Navas) won’t stop riding them, even if their extracurricular training conflicts with their studying.
To make matters worse, Enric (Josep Linuesa) is trying to put together a promotional video package that keeps interfering with practice; he’s also doing it for entirely self-serving reasons to help his re-election campaign. More on this in a bit, since it evolves into a bit of cliffhanger.
Berta’s (Natàlia Barrientos) new modeling career takes a creepy turn in The Hockey Girls Episode 8, as the owner of the Instagram page which took an interest in her starts pressing her for naked pictures, getting annoyed when she refuses. This does lead to a touching scene in which Raquel (Júlia Gibert) confesses what happened between her and Òscar (Nil Cardoner), but it also leads to increasingly threatening demands. Later, beside herself, Berta confesses this all to Terrats, who wants to take the matter straight to the police.
Laila tells her parents she’ll take the pills since her lack of focus is causing her problems in all areas of her life, but she has no intention of actually doing so — or, for that matter, studying, which she confesses to Nil. It just isn’t her. She also tries to explain this to her parents, including politely dropping in that she intends not to take her exams and to drop out of high school entirely since all she wants to do is art. This goes about as well as you might expect.
Despite “Laila” ostensibly being about Laila, it’s Terrats who gets the biggest moments. She stops taking hormones. She gets drunk tasting wine with Santi (Juli Fàbregas), having a minor breakdown during which she wonders whether she obsesses over wanting a baby because she wants to be a mother or because she wants to win a competition. They end up having sex. And in a final last-minute reveal, she defends the girls against Enric’s exploitative presidential campaign and declares that she’ll be running against him.
