Episode 2, “Made in a Strip Mall” gives us a fast-forwarded timeline of New Miles’ (Paul Rudd) version of events. He wakes up in Top Happy, with a fuller look at life, and immediately wants to take on the world. While he drives down the roads, he takes in the air by hanging his head out of the window. He then ventures into a crop field and bargains with a farmer to take some of his own produce. New Miles is high on life. He walks into work and instantly presents new ideas to the marketing team, with Dan, his colleague, unimpressed for taking down his project.

“Made in a Strip Mall” gives us a good case study of a strained couple. New Miles’ lighthearted approach to his wife Kate (Aisling Bea) is confusing as hell for her. His encouragement, love and utmost respect to know how her day went make her feel frustrated rather than elated. She wants to start a family, and soon — New Miles approves.

And slowly but surely, the timelines merges back to the present day with Original and New Miles eager to figure out what to do next.

They both decide to go to Top Happy to get a refund for their troubles, threatening to take their case to the FDA for illegal cloning. All of a sudden, the scientists no longer have Korean accents — they are American.

Splitting the cash from their refund, Original Miles encourages New Miles to have a new life — he persuades him to go traveling and see the world while he returns to the life he had. Original Miles sorts out his cloned self with money, a credit card and a passport.

The issue is, clones have feelings. Living with Yourself Season 1, Episode 2, “Made in a Strip Mall” concludes with New Miles clearly irked by the prospect of having to flee; he loves Kate, his life and his home, despite the memories being transferred to his body. There’s a touching scene where New Miles takes a call from Kate, and he can barely hold back the tears. He spends the end of the episode looking at Original Miles and Kate have dinner, before picking up a rock and going to the back door.
