This recap of Daybreak Season 1, Episode 4, “MMMMMMM-HMMMMMM”, contains spoilers. You can check out our thoughts on the previous episode by clicking these words.

It’s time for training in Daybreak Episode 4. Josh (Colin Ford) has sworn vengeance on Baron Triumph for killing Sam (Sophie Simnett), and since he has a missing finger, he requires a training montage to get in shape for the event. Wesley (Austin Crute) can help with his swordplay, and his morale, especially when he reminds Josh that there are plenty of heroes in fiction with missing appendages.

Principle Burr (Matthew Broderick) narrates “MMMMMMM-HMMMMMM”, discussing how he was responsible for the creation of Baron Triumph, who we’re told is Jaden Hoyles (Rob H. Roy). There’s a fair amount of Hoyles’ backstory in Daybreak Episode 4. His parents were the wealthy overseers of a cereal empire and Jaden’s young, cherubic face was the company’s image. When Hoyles acts out at school, his folks swoop in and buy the problem away, offering Burr a substantial bribe to change his grade, which he initially refuses.

In the present day, Angelica (Alyvia Alyn Lind) wants to help Ms. Crumble (Krysta Rodriguez) get back to the woman she was by sprucing her up a little — but she’s not a girly girl, so she needs the help of Eli (Gregory Kasyan), who’s a makeover whizz-kid and manages to get her looking how she did pre-apocalypse. Angelica is next, and he does a decent job with her too, but Ms. Crumble doesn’t like it. She musses them both back up and suggests they be monsters together, which seems like a better solution to their problems.

When Josh and Wesley set out to hunt Baron Triumph, one of Turbo’s (Cody Kearsley) goons spots them and sends a signal back to Turbo. Josh wants to know what Turbo did to make him leave the Jocks and set out on the path of the samurai, but he won’t say. On the streets, they once again run into the golf team, and soon after Turbo himself, who wants an unarmed fight to the death. But they’re interrupted by Baron Triumph, who kills one of the golfers with a teddy bear bomb. Josh, Wesley, and Turbo are knocked unconscious and taken to the Hoyle-Some cereal factory — the Baron’s headquarters.

More flashbacks in “MMMMMMM-HMMMMMM” reveal that Burr eventually took the bribe, which meant he couldn’t call out Hoyles for any of his increasingly erratic behavior. The beginnings of a monster are here, but it’s not who you think. In the present day, Josh gets free with the help of the Baron’s on-rails foreign exchange student helpers, and finds Hoyles tied up. Baron Triumph is Principle Burr.

At school, Burr turned the tables on Hoyles, catching him on camera sleeping with an underage student. In the present day he’s marinating Hoyles to feed his new habit of cannibalism. In a stand-off between him and Josh, he ends up locked in a grain silo; Josh is able to free the rest of the captives — though not Turbo — and take them back to the mall with Wesley.

But there’s one more surprise to come in Daybreak Season 1, Episode 4. Wesley returns to the cereal factory and frees Turbo, who it’s revealed was his boyfriend. Burr, meanwhile, begins to mutate inside his cell, though into what is left unclear for now.
