What Is The New Streaming Platform “Topic”? Add This To Your Subscriptions

With Big Companies doing their best to segway into the market, there is a new streaming platform that will take many by surprise. Yes, Apple+ and Netflix muscled their way into the streaming world, but what about Topic? This will be your go-to for niche and meaningful content.

Here is what we know about Topic so far, as provided by their press release:

Topic, from First Look Media, is a new streaming service curated for a curious and engaged audience seeking smart, provocative and meaningful entertainment. Topic will feature premieres and programming from around the world, complemented by an eclectic slate of originals including scripted comedies and dramas, talk shows, documentaries, features and more. Out now, Topic will be available to US and Canadian audiences on Topic.com, Apple iOS, and tvOS, Android and Amazon Fire. Topic will launch with monthly and annual plans, with a cost of $5.99 / month or $60 for the year.

The following shows made their US premieres on the service on its launch date (note that this is not a comprehensive list of the programming that will be available. The service will launch with over 300 hours of content.):

  • Honour (Sweden) — At a time when prostitution is moving off the streets and on to smartphones, hidden in the pocket of any man with access to the right app, Heder — a law firm named for the Swedish word for “honour” — is needed more than ever. Acting as a voice for victims of sex crimes, speaking out from the shadows of patriarchal dominance, the lawyers of Heder have become a sensation, both in the courtroom and in the media — much to the irritation of men that have long profited from the abuses of the sex industry
  • Philharmonia (France) — Hélène is back in Paris after 20 years to take over as head of the Philharmonia, a national orchestra in turmoil since the sudden death of its previous conductor. Hired against the advice of the director and musicians, Hélène, a woman with unusual methods, has one season to prove her worth and save an orchestra known as “the maestro killer.”
  • Enterprice (UK) — Kazim and Jeremiah are two young entrepreneurs rolling out their home delivery service, Speedi-Kazz. Kazim has the energy and confidence, and Jeremiah has the brains. But their differences can leave them at loggerheads. As the boys attempt to run their business, they get distracted by life’s big questions. Who has better flow, Biggie or 2Pac? Is there such a thing as a black vegan? Can you wear a silver suit to a school reunion?
  • The Miracle (Italy) — From the producers of The Young Pope and My Brilliant Friend comes a new drama series created by best-selling writer Niccolò Ammaniti. A pulsating eight-part story about life, death, power, science, and faith. When a remarkable discovery is made, it has life-changing consequences for all who witness it.

*Topic’s original shows, including interview series Rough Draft with Emmy Award-nominated Reza Aslan, will start premiering later this fall. Additional originals will premiere in 2020, such as the New Orleans inspired suspense thriller Soul City.

At Ready Steady Cut, we always keep up with streaming content. Topic will be added to our coverage and we will keep you up to date on the new streaming platform’s latest content.
