Medical Police Episode 2, “The Goldfinch” is an episode about how government organizations and the media label a certain group of people against a certain characteristic in a racially discriminative way.
Lola (Erinn Hayes) and Owen (Rob Huebel) are in Berlin and after blagging themselves away from the police, they go to the place of quarantine to check out the virus outbreak. When they get there, Lola wonders if the terrorist is within their reach and Owen explains that they need to look for someone suspicious. Ironically, Owen finds an Asian man looking suspicious and this man suddenly runs away. Lola asks Owen to chase after him.
Lola and Owen frequently discuss in Episode 3, “The Goldfinch”, how they are not stereotyping based on race and that anyone could be a terrorist. They highlight their privilege and repeatedly say “I am glad we had this conversation”.
Eventually, they come across a man in a van called The Goldfinch who claims to know Sloane McIntyre but works for himself. Goldfinch spends a few seconds mourning over McIntyre’s death before finding the location of the terrorist suspect. Lola and Owen explain to him that they are not being racist and that anyone could be a terrorist.
They finally corner the suspect and Owen shoots him when he tries pulling something out of his pocket — a dig at US law enforcement who are trigger happy against minorities. Owen luckily shot the suspect’s arm and he was running away because he stole a pocket vagina from the medical services so he can practice losing his virginity. He was planning on having sex with his girlfriend. The suspect raises how Lola and Owen were racially stereotyping because he is Muslim.
Medical Police Season 1, Episode 2, “The Goldfinch” ends with Lola and Owen finding out that the virus has spread to five cities globally and now it is a worldwide emergency. The last scene flits to one of the attackers from the plane who has survived.
