As the comic book industry continues to produce arguably more drama than the comics they publish, a recent article from Polygon states that Jim Lee will be the sole publisher at DC, meaning that Dan DiDio will not, in the near future, be replaced.
DC has still released no official statement about DiDio’s removal from his position at the company. DiDio left suddenly last Friday amidst a cloud of speculation, and the move left many questions about the future of comics at the company. However, after C2E2, Jim Lee has broken the silence about the state of affairs.
From what we can gather though, DiDio will not be replaced in the near future and Jim Lee will now be the sole publisher of the company.
Jim Lee has said, “DC has been around for 85 years, and we’ll be around for another 85.” Putting the rumors of a Marvel take over back in the box.
However looking between the lines, there have also been other departures, including high-profile employee Dee Dee Myers, who was placed in charge of publicity at the company and also left the business.
Jim Lee is a long time comic book legend who has been pivotal in the company, along with DiDio, and was responsible for the New 52 relaunch, and then Rebirth at DC too.
It seems that Lee is now publisher and CCO, and that’s a lot of work for one man.
The AT&T takeover at Warner continues to play out, and personally I feel that Lee will be under careful scrutiny for the foreseeable future as they decide on the future of the publishing arm of the business.
