Summary

The Letter for the King season 1, episode 2, “Isn’t She a Sweetheart” is hardly compelling and a little predictable, but it’s entertaining.

This recap of Netflix Series The Letter for the King season 1, episode 2, “Isn’t She a Sweetheart” contains significant spoilers.

The Letter for the King season 1, episode 2, “Isn’t She a Sweetheart” opens up and Tiuri is predictably alive, baked in mud next to a river. He is suddenly chased by the Red Riders so he casually jumps on his horse Ardanwen and departs swiftly. The horse goes too fast and he falls off — as we’ve established, his horse game is poor. He scrummages on the ground and finds the letter he dropped — the Red Riders cannot find him as he hides up a tree.

Tiuri walks towards a castle and tells his father what happened with the Black Knight and how the Red Riders killed him. He shows his father the letter but then he quickly has to hide. The rather immaturely performed Fantumar enters Sir Tiuri’s home and asks for his son, accusing him of killing the Black Knight and stealing the letter. Sir Tiuri tells Fantumar to leave and then they fight. Sir Tiuri is held by Fantumar’s men and then Fantumar stabs him right in the chest.

A cowardly move by a cowardly character.

When Fantumar leaves, Tiuri rushes to his father. His father tells Tiuri to leave the letter and save himself as he dies on the floor. Tiuri looks outside to see his mother getting arrested. Tiuri finds an escape route as the castle is set on fire.

He’s in trouble now.

And he’s not very good at evading as the Red Riders find Tiuri and take the letter off him. As Jara is about to kill him, the horse Ardanwen runs towards Jaro and saves Tiuri — it’s ironic that this horse is better at handling himself than the supposed prospective Knight. Tiuri picks up the letter and jumps on the horse.

Tiuri continues riding away from the Red Riders into the night. He hears voices whispering again.

Meanwhile, in Mistrinaut, we are introduced to a new character named Lavinia who wants to go on a mission to restore the trade route but her father refuses to comply, insisting she gets married instead.

And at that point, Tiuri arrives in Mistrinaut as well and he gets some food, barely trying to stay invisible from the public. He checks out the letter case and then Lavinia interrupts him and asks what he is doing in Mistrinaut. Lavinia claims she can help Tiuri before betraying him and handing him over to her father, stating she’s found the Eviellan boy with a big bounty on his head. He deserved this to be fair; Tiuri is captured and they intend to sell him to a bounty hunter. Lavinia’s father checks out the letter case, unable to open it.

Ristridin arrives to take Tiuri and insists he returns with him back to Dagonaut. Tirui resists, saying he has to deliver the letter to King Favian. Meanwhile, Lavinia sneaks out and then saves Tiuri and they both run away. Lavinia has stolen the letter from her father; she wants to find the trade road before helping Tiuri go to Unuawen. They both ride out of Mistrinaut with the Grey Riders chasing them. Tiuri and Lavinia manage to get away, but the Grey Riders end up in a battle with the Red Riders.

The Letter for the King season 1, episode 2, “Isn’t She a Sweetheart” ends with Tiuri and Lavinia continuing to ride off and Tiuri hearing those whispers again. The Novices are told by a dying Ristridin to help Tiuri, but they are captured by the Red Riders.

So far, the story is not very compelling at all but it’s at least entertaining.
