Brews Brothers Season 1 is not meant to be taken seriously by any stretch of the imagination; it’s a boozy, chilled Netflix comedy series that’s a whole lot of fun.
This review of Netflix series Brews Brothers season 1 contains no spoilers. The comedy series will be released on the platform on April 10, 2020.
I’m assuming many of us are drinking beer and trying to have a laugh at the moment in uncertain times. Well, how about both in one concept? Netflix brings a comedy series about two brothers that run a brewery.
So where does the comedy come into it? Well, Brews Brothers brings forth two brothers who have always rivalled each other, however, due to financial difficulties, they join forces to brew the beer together to save the business.
Wilhelm and Adam exemplify siblings that have such intense dislike for each other that their cracked-over love makes the whole experience heartwarming. Both brothers are equally dumb in many ways, but at the same time, are completely different characters. For instance, Adam hates the idea of getting drunk, while Wilhelm loves to chug his beers.
Netflix’s Brews Brothers relies on silly gags and a typical sit-com format to shine the comedy through. None of the plotlines can be taken seriously as each character is a caricature of themselves. Season 1 embarks on a journey, with half-hour episodes, justifying the brothers’ love for beer.
There’s also a third character that joins the wheel. Sarah is actually the character that gels the story together; she is the true motivator behind the good ideas and holds the torch for common sense. The three characters do well to bounce off each other — the comedic chemistry between the cast is well and truly clear.
Some episodes do not even feel like a continuation but more of an insight into the madness of a circus brewery trying to make it into the big leagues. You have Adam who is a pretentious, needy brewmaster and Adam who is too laidback, with Sarah in the middle doing damage limitation.
Netflix series Brews Brothers is not groundbreaking, but it is funny. I would also argue that it isn’t memorable, but I doubt many would grumble at a Season 2. As it does not take itself too seriously, it does not expect audiences to hold it to a high benchmark. Instead, it’s like a chilling beer before all the boozy fun. Light, refreshing and ready to settle for the next round. Brews Brothers Season 1 is worth the watch.
