Summary

Netflix special Ben Platt Live From Radio City Music Hall was released on the platform on May 20, 2020.

What I always look for when I watch concert specials on TV is the relationship between the performer(s) and the audience. You can always tell the kind of relationship an artist has with their followers in just how they react on the stage. Of course, sometimes it depends on the genre and the demographic as well — some artists will never get screeching girls bursting their eardrums. Ben Platt Live From Radio City Music Hall proves that the artist has a very soulful connection with his fans — it’s almost immediate.

As Ben Platt walks on to the stage, he bursts into song straight away, not giving the audience an opportunity to glorify the man in praise — and at the first moment that he acknowledges them, they go wild. The Netflix special specifically zones in on some of the audience’s faces while they sing — an incredible amount of passion etched on their faces as they follow the lyrics. The Netflix special is intimate with its audience — the crowd atmosphere and ambiance feel genuine.

But it’s not just the intimacy that’s admirableBen is a funny guy apparently — between singing his songbook and emptying his heart out, he tells stories — and they are not awkward stories; they are genuinely amusing. The audience hangs on to his every word.

Ben Platt Live From Radio City Music Hall is intimate, funny and joyous and a must-watch performance as the artist passionately sings to a sold-out crowd.
