How does El Presidente season 1, episode 2, “Rosarito” open?
Episode 2 starts in 2014, highlighting how many workers have died building the stadiums — El Presidente is giving the audience the true depths to the corruption that took place in FIFA. In the present day, Sergio is spooked by a car following him so he confronts the vehicle. He’s put in a garage. Rosario enters and asks if he wants a cigarette. He refuses to work with her. Rosarito gives him a few options; cooperate or go to prison.
Back to Luque
Back to the past in Luque; Rosario is serving the presidents drinks as a waitress. Hawilla is feeling insecure because of a young millionaire named Jinkis, despite owning TV rights. The presidents discuss TV shares and when they can be aired and states sponsorships and how they can split the money. They discuss how Hawilla is not willing to adjust. The presidents all argue amongst themselves — they ask what Sergio thinks. They vote for the beer sponsors at the World Cup and Sergio votes in favour. Rosario speaks to Sergio afterwards accusing the presidents of being like children.
Afterwards, Nené rings Sergio and says the “fat cats” continue to have meetings in his office while he’s away on business. When Sergio returns to his hotel room, someone has left bands of money notes on his bed. El Presidente season 1, episode 2, “Rosarito” shows how the corruption has started with the under the table money offerings for votes.
Present-day — Switzerland
In the present, Rosario asks him to be a mole again but he refuses. We then go to Switzerland and the narrator Grondono explains why so many people leave their money there. Sergio enters an elevator with his wife in a hotel and notices that Rosario is there. At a conference, Sergio suggests to Blatter a “role” that connects FIFA and the CONMEBOL. Blatter tells him to be patient. Sergio talks to Mariano Jinkis, attempting to snitch to get information off him.
Back to the past, Sergio tries to speak to Mariano Jinkis about the TV shares. Jinkis wants to unite the nations. Back in the hotel room, Sergio looks at the rolls of money on his bed before leaving the hotel. Sergio is worried about not declaring anything via customs and feels relieved once he gets through.
We all eat.
While having a meal with Fatima, he asks her for a favour and gives her a bag, presumably it’s the bag of money. Sergio then heads to Argentina; he meets Grondono and tells him that he doesn’t necessarily side with Jinkis over the TV shares. Grondono states we all eat or none of us eat and asks him if he’s clear about it. In the present at Zurich, Sergio continues to attend the FIFA meetings and continues to snitch using the gadget Rosario gave him.
Sergio and Nené attend an evening do and she insists they dance. Rosario watches them both from a distance. Outside, Dave tells Rosario that she’s dismantling the budget and using a “dumbass” to get information. Dave confirms they are part of the FBI.
How does El Presidente season 1, episode 2, “Rosarito” end?
The episode ends with Sergio making friends from many small clubs, building his reputation with the advice of Nené and tells his new friends “we either all eat or no-one eats”. In the present day, Rosario still follows Sergio, joining him in the elevator. He tells her he is paving a way for a new position at FIFA where he will get more information. - A rumour circulates that Sergio is going to resign but Nené squashes the rumours. When he returns to HQ, executives ask him to resign over the Bielsa issue. Sergio doesn’t want to resign.
- Grondono narrates on how they control the hooligans to work in their own commercial favours.
- Back in the past, Sergio meets Grondono and he said his one wish is having Copa America. Grondono says if he wants to be champion you have to rip it all out in an analogy of the bad grass on the pitch.
