Summary

Gina Brillon: The Floor is Lava navigates through the jokes with ease; the Latina comedian discusses her childhood, her conflicts with culture and swiftly moving from a single to married life to a midwestern man.

Amazon original special stand-up Gina Brillon: The Floor is Lava will be released on the platform on June 5, 2020.

This is my first experience of Gina Brillon’s stand-up and what is noticeable from the first minute is that this Bronx born Latina comedian keeps it real. There’s no bullsh*t with her jokes — “It is what it is”. Gina Brillon: The Floor is Lava has a unique approach to life’s ups and downs which is heralded by the comedian’s humour and sass that the audience clearly appreciates.

One of the jokes that really hits the sweet spot is when the comedian discusses her family going from poor to “aite” to wealthy back to “aite”. It always fascinates me when I see a poor family become rich overnight and suddenly, now that they have money, they have no idea what to do with it. For Gina Brillon, her experience is that her father bought a boat and they lived in the middle of the Bronx…

But as Gina Brillon: The Floor is Lava navigates through the jokes, the Latina comedian discusses her childhood, her conflicts with culture and swiftly moving from single to married life to a midwestern man. Gina Brillon hits joke after joke with her sly, charming personality that hits the jokes with a lash of a tongue. There are no punches held in this stand-up.

In a nutshell, Gina Brillon: The Floor is Lava engages with the audience because the comedian could easily revel of how much she has “made it” but the stand-up embraces how she has kept to her culture and roots regardless of many moving parts, bringing the audience a feeling of love and a comedic set full of laughter and heart.
