This recap of The Titan Games season 2, episode 5 contains spoilers. You can check out our thoughts on the previous episode by clicking these words.

And we’re back for another round of shenanigans in the West division after both of Dwayne Johnson’s hand-picked Titans got smoked last week. Now Noah and Kelly sit atop Mount Olympus, ready to take on all comers.

First up: Mitch Harrison, a security guard and basketball player who competed as a woman, Michelle. Mitch is here as a trans athlete, which is a compelling and welcome story for this kind of show. Facing off against him is Exodus Rogers, who runs the athletic program at the Sacramento County Youth Detention Facility. Another compelling background; it’s easy to root for both of these guys.

The first game is Launch Pad. It’s neck and neck for a while, but Exodus is able to secure the win as Noah watches on, openly impressed.

Now, our female contestants in The Titan Games season 2, episode 5. Margaux Alvarez owns a California winery (she’s named after her parents’ favorite wine — ugh) and is motivated in large part by the untimely passing of her sister. Taking her on is Kelly Stone, a physical therapist who doesn’t like to lose. She’s also a four-time bellyflop champion, which I didn’t even know was a thing.

The game is Nuts and Bolts. Both seem to struggle at first, but Kelly takes a slight lead. Neither wants to go too early. Kelly makes a move first, but they both end up at the rope with the same amount of weight left. Margaux takes her time pulling down the wall, but Kelly makes a crucial error in going to remove more weight. It costs her and she loses the round.

Back to Mitch and Exodus for Over the Edge. Mitch is bigger, but just not strong enough to compete with Exodus, who denies the tie-breaker fairly comfortably. A sad moment for Mitch, who takes pride in finally being on a big stage as the real him. His parting words: “We belong.”

Margaux and Kelly are up for Lunar Impact. This is always a fun one. It’s very competitive, but Kelly starts to pick up an advantage using better technique; straight arms for leverage, lower body for power. But she loses focus for a second and Margaux takes the advantage, pushing her close to the edge. Kelly can’t stop the momentum and loses 2-0. A clean sweep for the men and the women in The Titan Games season 2, episode 5.

Exodus squares off against Noah on Mount Olympus. It’s very close out of the gate. It might be the closest Mount Olympus we’ve seen. Noah arrives at the ball and chain first as Exodus takes a nasty fall right behind him. He takes another at a crucial moment, giving Noah an extra few seconds. They allow him to win. He’s an incredibly impressive athlete. Exodus will be back for the regional final.

Margaux takes on Kelly Valdez on Mount Olympus to cap off this week’s episode. It’s close, though Kelly’s familiarity with the course doesn’t do her any favors on the log lift, which stops her dead. Surely she can’t come back from that? Kelly remains behind and looks very much like she’s given up as Margaux rushes ahead. It’s a dominant, clear win for the winemaker.

The West region continues to provide some compelling backstories and great contests.
