How does Japan Sinks: 2020 season 1, episode 10, “Ressurection” open?

Another chapter and the characters are grieving over another death. Kite is frustrated with himself but Ayumu refuses to give up. They play the archives on Kite’s phone and it shows which parts of Japan will resurface. Kite puts a huge balloon together so they can fly over the sea but then shockingly, he leaves Ayumu, Go and Onodera behind.

Kite’s plan

However, Kite had a plan — he went up on the balloon to reconnect his phone to the internet. Suddenly, a helicopter finds Ayumu, Go and Onodera as they found Kite’s GPS. They fly over Mt Fuji that has fully erupted. Ayumu faints on the helicopter and ends up in the hospital. In the news, the disaster is widespread globally. From here on, the finale of Japan Sinks: 2020 season 1 is about the new future. The next scenes show Ayumu getting a birthday message from Kite. She’s now 15 years old. She sobs uncontrollably. Go has access to their mother’s social media accounts and he and Ayumu look through all her photos and the memories. She kept a lot stored on her computer.wqq

8 years later

The series then flits to 8 years later — we are introduced to a teenage Go. A new Japan has been formed despite many of the population disappearing. The country has many archives so returning Japanese people can look at the past.

The archives also reveal that all of Japan will rise again in 100 years, but many parts have already surfaced. A treaty was made internationally so Japan could keep the territory. Ayumu is participating in the Japanese Paralympics team with one leg — the other leg she lost after her injuries during the disaster. She’s vowed to make the most of life for those who gave her the foundation — there are many scenes of those who have helped and supported her on the journey — many people have died. The second part of episode 10 dedicates itself to the old and new Japan, past and present characters. It’s a lovely montage to sign off a brilliant series.
