How does Last Chance U season 5, episode 2, “QB4” open?
The opener gives us a montage of Coach Beam’s achievements. Interviewees state how Beam is “talk the talk”, intimidating and a legend — championships are expected with Beam. There are a lot of broken homes in Oakland and Beam has become a father figure — “Beam is Oakland”. There’s plenty of suggestions that college football requires hustle now which requires the expenditure of more energy but the money will always be on Beam.
We aren’t a good team right now
The opening game is dissected to the team and Beam states they aren’t a good team right now. Rezjohn is called out by the Coach as an apparent “Big-Time Player”. Beam tells the team to quit up all the talking.
Dior has a meeting with the housing support officer as he’s sleeping in his car some nights but logistically he is concerned about getting to work as it makes sense where he couch surfs right.
In training, Ryan may have possibly torn his ACL which looks extremely painful. Players support him as he groans in pain on the ground.
Coach to Clown
As we reach the halfway stage of Last Chance U season 5, episode 2, “QB4”, Beam tells the team that their next opponents (American River) are good and they need to play better than ever. The Coach is putting all his energy into improving quarterback Kenny Gardner who is struggling to be the student of the game. In the game, Kenny doesn’t know it is fourth-down and tries to run to safety. They lose the game — an upset for the second straight week. Plus the quarterback Kenny is also injured — they have no quarterbacks. Beam feels he has gone from Coach of the Year to Clown on TV. They had four quarterbacks, now they have none.
Right this ship
The next Quarterback prospect is Taye Bass but morale is low in the team already. Beam tells the team that they need to right this ship and he makes Dior the new quarterback — the Coach doesn’t want to give up. Dior is prepped by the coaches and his mother is proud of him for making it so far.
How does Last Chance U season 5, episode 2, “QB4” end?
It’s Game Day 3 against Feather River! It’s Dior’s first College game as a Quarterback. He gets himself an early touchdown by running the ball. Dior has brought in the energy that was needed — Beam is proud of him as Dior’s team player. They win their first game. Episode 2 shows some light at the end of the tunnel which is caused by a disaster of injuries.
