How does The Umbrella Academy season 2, episode 6, ‘A Light Supper” open?

It opens with Allison leaving the vortex and arriving in the 60s — none of the other family members arrives with her so she’s lost in this timeline. She enters the white-only cafe and everyone looks at her and she’s bemused. She finds refuge in a barbershop as some white men chase her — this is how Allison ended up with the activism group and found herself a new life and fell in love with Raymond.

Assassinate the board

Back to the core story and Five still has his foot on Lila’s neck. The Handler asks Five not to crush her windpipe. She tells Five that under her leadership, The Commission will be like jazz — The Handler explains that in exchange for the assassination of The Commission board, she will get Five and his family back to 2019 where they belong. Five asks about both apocalypses but The Handler says if she is in charge they can jazz (meaning, I presume, there won’t be any apocalypses.)

Five asks when the next board meeting is so he can agree to the deal but he also wants to think about it.

A united front

Diego and Vanya think it would be a good idea to meet their father for support but Luther is against it. Diego suggests they go meet their father with a united front. It’s funny how naive Diego is — this family is hardly on a united front — you already know a light supper with their father is not going to fix all the cracks.

I am a fraud

Klaus is still hanging with his cult. After a discussion with Ben, he tells them all he is a fraud and that he’s been lying all along. Keechie, one of the cult followers, stands up and says he is a fraud too. The followers do not understand what he is saying and they all stand up and tell Klaus that they, too are frauds. Dave and Jill then arrive at the place which catches Klaus and Ben off guard.

“I heard a rumor” is back in force

Allison tells Raymond everything, including that in the future there is a black president in the White House. Raymond wants Allison to prove her powers. They head to a suit shop for whites only and she convinces the owner to let Raymond try on suits. Raymond is impressed again but then Allison goes into the white-only cafe that started the riot and tells the manager to serve her coffee and forces him to burn himself. The manager scolds his hands with hot coffee and Raymond stops her from continuing. He asks her if she has ever used her powers on him but she denies ever doing that. This scene reminds viewers how reckless Allison can quickly get with her powers. It’s a control thing and she cannot help it.

Allison then gets an invitation from her father for a light supper.

Five is the best assassin?

The Handler and Lila head to a bingo night; Lila is jealous because The Handler called Five the best assassin The Commission has ever seen — she wanted the assignment. Lila asks about Diego and The Handler accuses her of having an eye for him — “Falling for your mark, so cliché”.

Don’t fight in the war

The Umbrella Academy season 2, episode 6 sees Klaus unable to handle his emotions, conflicted by love that hasn’t technically experienced in this timeline yet.

Dave apologizes to Klaus for what happened in the cafe (for punching him) — he asks how Klaus knows about the war. Klaus proves how much he knows about him — “I know that sometimes you feel like an outsider in your family”. Klaus tells Dave that he doesn’t need to prove himself by going to war and shows him a necklace that proves he fought in battle. Dave tells Klaus that he has already enlisted after he visited him. Keechie then gets an invitation to his father’s supper. This scene proves that changing moments in a timeline does not work and you can always sense this family is playing out a loop.

The Handler meets The Swedes

The Handler visits The Swedes in a steam room and mentions how they’ve just lost a brother and offers to give them the location of the person that killed their brother. She says it was Diego and she wants them to kill him so he leaves her daughter Lila alone. She tells them to not kill the little one (Five).

All the family arrives at the building where their father is at the same time for the supper invite. Luther hilariously farts in the elevator due to being nervous. They all disagree about what they should talk to their father about. So yes, Diego, this is not a united front.

Family supper

It’s time for a light supper; Reginald Hargreeves arrives and asks “Who are you?”. Five tries to explain why he adopted them — to save the world etc. The father wants evidence that they have powers. Five breaks down all their powers and Vanya proves hers despite everyone telling her not to.

You are trying to kill the President

Diego accuses his father of trying to assassinate President Kennedy but his father reminds him that he has suffered from induced paranoia and has recently left the hospital. Diego shows his father a photo of him at the same spot when the President is shot.

Reginald calls Diego a desperate, delusional man which hurts him. Five raises how there will be doomsday in five days but their father mocks them and tells the group to do something about it if it’s real. Ben then tries to use Klaus to speak to his father but fails. A frustrated Klaus shows his father his body and says, “Look what you did to me,” and then his father walks off. Allison congratulates Luther for standing up for himself for once to his father. This was a failed family meeting and a great scene in episode 6, showing how ludicrous the whole ordeal is — this family is unreliable.

Showing Grace evidence

Sissy finds Vanya and wants to go somewhere private. Meanwhile, Diego shows Grace evidence that Reginald is going to kill President Kennedy and that they have to stop him.

Think in a matter of seconds

Reginald has a private drink with Five and calls him the most sensible of the group. Five asks for help and asks his father what he knows about time travel. Reginald states that so much can change in a matter of seconds which is not very helpful for Five who is trying to change more than a few seconds.

Five states that he gave his father a hard time as a kid and they both finish their drinks.

How does The Umbrella Academy season 2, episode 6, ‘A Light Supper” end?

When Elliott returns to his home, he is attacked by The Swedes — they ask him where Diego is. They end up torturing him, gouging out his teeth.

Sissy tells Vanya she doesn’t like how she left things — “It’s dangerous. They do not abide by women like us here”. Vanya suggests they go somewhere away from here and promises nothing will happen to her and Harlan — “I just need you to trust me”. Sissy laughs and says she does trust her before they kiss — “Let’s get outta here”. Meanwhile, Carl sees everything from a distance. Trouble is afoot for these two loving women — the story is thickening.

As the episode ends, Diego and Luther head back to Elliott’s place and see Elliott has been killed. They look at the landing below and Elliott’s blood is smeared to say the words “Öga for Öga” — Öga means eye in Swedish; Five heads to The Handler’s place and agrees to the deal — “No more doomsday, no more apocalypse”. The Handler passes him an address and year for The Commission board meeting — “The Lonely Lodger Inn. Oshkosh, Wisconsin, 1982”. Episode 6 brings the uncanny nature of the family meeting their father in the 60s with the doomsday clock counting down in an exciting chapter.
