There’s a very small hint at the start of season 1 that there’s something not quite right about Debbie, the mother of the sisters. She seems to be on a wanted poster behind Bower’s desk but then Teenage Bounty Hunters get on with the story and it’s almost forgotten about — what are Debbie’s secrets in Teenage Bounty Hunters season 1?

Who raises their suspicions?

Blair is the first character — she suspects her mother because she’s acting strangely so she follows her car. At one point, she sees her mother find a wad of money and pick up a shotgun. Despite Blair’s concerns, Sterling brushes them off and accuses her sister of just being paranoid which causes quite a few arguments.

Debbie’s first lie

In order to overcome Blair’s suspicions, she tells her daughters about her parents, and how she regrets how she never got to see them again after having an intense argument. The sisters seem to buy it.

The photo

But then Blair finds a photo of her young mother that claims she was in Savannah at a particular food restaurant. When she finds out this restaurant does not exist in Savannah and it’s actually in Nandina, Blair once again knows her mother is lying.

Road trip

The sisters head out on a road trip and visit Nandina. While there, they learn that it’s a broken downtown and the local church described Debbie as someone who “Danced with the devil”. Blair and Sterling scout the police admins office and gets some unsolved arrests data. What they find is disturbing.

Debbie’s second lie

The twins find out that Debbie is a fugitive for first-degree arson; she ended up with the wrong group of people and burned down an abortion clinic because of her belief system at the time. She reassures her children that everything is okay and there are lawyers in place — they’ve got a plan. This is, of course, a half-lie.

The real culprit

We learn in the final episode of season 1 that Debbie has a twin sister named Dana and she is the one that carried out the arson. Debbie and Anderson have been keeping their sister safe and provided with money, however, Dana expects more which puts the family at risk. So Debbie is not actually the fugitive, her twin sister Dana is.
