Summary

“Selena + Nyesha Arrington” close out the season by cooking for not just humans but their dogs as well.

This recap of Selena + Chef Season 1 Episode 10, “Selena + Nyesha Arrington”, contains spoilers. You can check out our thoughts on the previous episode by clicking these words.

It’s the finale, folks, and renowned chef Nyesha Arrington is going to close things out by showing Selena how to filet a branzino to go with spiced tomato-coconut sauce, along with dog biscuits for “the babies.”

Raquel arrives with a coffee delivery while Selena and Nyesha go to a frankly absurd effort for the dogs, and Liz turns up too, throwing compliments left and right. Nyesha has been quarantining with her dog and cat like something out of a Disney movie, so there’s no wonder she’s tailoring her recipes to them really.

It’s time to make human food, finally. Nyesha’s justification for the non-classic sauce is just that it tastes good, which is always the best justification for food.

Raquel wants to try a dog biscuit, and she and Liz foist one on Papa. The fish comes out. Selena’s surprisingly decent — if a little graceless — when it comes to slicing it up, including a delicate process reminiscent of the children’s game Operation.

Liz thinks they’re ready to open a restaurant or start a catering business, despite the fact that Selena had to be reminded not to plate up half-raw fish. The presentation also leaves a lot to be desired on their side of the aisle, but taste is everything, and Raquel thinks this might be the best thing they’ve made in all ten episodes. Then again they do say that every episode.

The dogs, needless to say, are thrilled too.

Nyesha is supporting the NAACP, a worthy and timely cause, and I think the second time it’s come up in the series. 20K so far.

To close out the season, the producers have left Selena a cake. Raquel and Liz sit down with Selena, Nana, and Papa to celebrate their accomplishments. The general consensus is that she did better than anyone expected, which it’s hard to disagree with. And that’s a wrap.
