It’s only fitting that P-Valley, one of the best shows of the year, saved the best for last. The first season finale, “Murda Night”, lived up to its title with debauchery to spare, and managed to not only tie up most of the subplots and character arcs but leave things wide open for an already confirmed sophomore outing.

Beginning where we left off, Autumn – Hailey from now on, since the cat’s out of the bag regarding who she really is – is still locked in the Paradise Room with Montavius, who’d very much like his money back, thanks very much. Meanwhile, it’s the go-home show at The Pynk, with Keyshawn and Lil Murda headlining. Everyone’s in attendance, including Derrick, who needless to say isn’t entirely thrilled with the performance.

With the club on the verge of closure, time’s running out to secure opportunities, so “Murda Night” finds several characters negotiating their futures: Lil Murda and Keyshawn as a money-spinning double act, trying to cut a deal with a music exec; Mercedes as a dance teacher, looking to secure investment from Coach; and Big L as a drug smuggler. That last one leaves Hailey at the mercy of Montavius, at least for a while, despite her topless dancing attracting Uncle Clifford’s attention.

Mercedes to the rescue, though. She’s given Hailey’s Missing Person poster by a messenger – Diamond laughingly letting him in with a fake ID is a funny moment – and deduces that her co-conspirator is in trouble, so finagles her way into the Paradise Room with a bottle of champagne. This is only the beginning of a downslide that results in carnage all over the place, which begins in earnest when Diamond spots Derrick getting a little too aggressive with Keyshawn and goes to confront him in the bathroom.

Diamond getting his hands on Derrick is something we’ve been waiting for all season, and P-Valley episode 8 delights in it, with their fight spilling out into the club, where shots are fired and chaos erupts. Meanwhile, Hailey and Mercedes fight off Montavius, with eventually Clifford running to intervene. Gunshots ring out, blood leaks beneath the Paradise Room door, and we cut away not entirely sure what happened.

The rest of “Murda Night” lets us put the pieces together, as Clifford, her grandmother and the girls head out dressed in funereal attire for The Pynk’s auction, where Andre is capped at $200,000. Hailey, on the other hand, has $250,000 to play with. Before long, and amid much whooping and hollering, The Pynk is bought back by the girls. It’ll reopen for business – and just in time for Season 2.
