The opening

Adrienne tells Keef that she doesn’t care that he Black-faced her at the salon and they loved him but you get this sense that she’s genuinely irritated by the whole ordeal. Clovis and Ayana arrive so they decide to talk outside. Gunther brings back a man and a woman from the party that have a sexual interest in him. Episode 6 is a claustrophobic experience with all the characters in the apartment.

It’s a fetish

Ayana and Clovis watch films together. Adrienne and Keef head back inside and Adrienne asks Ayana and Clovis if they are obsessed with relationships with other races as much as Keef is. Ayana claims it’s impossible to have sex with another race without making it a fetish and then contradicts herself when she says Asians are her type. She says it’s different because she’s a lesbian.

Threesome preparation

Gunther was not aware that the couple he brought back wanted a threesome. He needs to mentally prepare but no-one gives him great advice. Gunther admits that he’s basic and starts panicking; he believes he should be more open to fluidity. Ayana states that it’s easier to be fluid as a woman because they are more open-minded.

Am I a rebound?

In a private conversation, Keef tells Adrienne that he likes her — she doesn’t think he does as it’s too complicated. Keef then reveals he has just got out of a two-year relationship and Adrienne wonders if she’s a rebound and only goes for emotionally unavailable men. This relationship is finished before it’s even started. Episode 5 shows Keef unable to keep someone he’s able to open up to.

You’re a f*ckgirl!

Clovis asks Ayana about her ex and she states it’s a sensitive subject. She says she isn’t completely blameless and Clovis then gets excited because he’s realised that Ayana is a “f*ckgirl” as she obviously sleeps around and cheats. Clovis is mostly pumped because Ayana is similar to him in some ways and now he feels he can relate to her.

Misreading the threesome

While Gunther starts hooking up with the couple, he grabs the man’s p***s and the man freaks out, claiming he’s not gay. Gunther then feels vulnerable and exposed as he’s misread the situation. The couple reassures him and they start again.

Validation and stability

Keef tells Adrienne that he felt validated at the salon. She says that she’s felt validated before but then it felt hollow — she feels she has nothing else to fight for because she’s stable. Keef states that he had a stable life and then he blew it up — he claims that Adrienne made it better. The couple then have sex.

The ending

Adrienne and Keef acknowledge that they had make-up sex and discuss various relationship scenarios and joke with each other. Keef tells Adrienne that they “maybe can’t do this right now”. The couple clearly doesn’t want to let go of this but feel it’s the right thing to do. It’s more of a regrettable breakup than one based on hating each other, making the audience wonder if this will resurface.

Adrienne leaves; Keef and Gunther join Clovis on the sofa. It’s been an exhausting night for the three characters. Woke season 1, episode 6 explores sexuality, relationships and the subject of interracial couples.
