Summary

It’s such a shame that this may be a goodbye to this series because it never gets boring.

Netflix’s Jack Whitehall: Travels with My Father season 4 was released on Netflix on September 22, 2020.

I’m not sure why this snuck onto the streaming service with little promotion. When I saw its schedule I wondered if it was a mistake. Jack Whitehall: Travels with My Father is better than the comedian’s stand-ups. The concept does not get boring — it’s always easy to watch the comedian in his own element battling with his father. In regards to the father, it’s blatantly evident now that the series is at season 4 that the man genuinely enjoys being out of his comfort zone — he seems content in doing anything, even dressing up in drag and entering a competition. The edginess has kind of worn off because of this but the chemistry between father and son still remains.

Jack Whitehall: Travels with My Father season 4 sees the duo in Australia — Jack is touring his stand-up so he decided to do a “two birds with one stone” and bring his father Michael to the country as well. At the start of episode 1, his father claims he came with him because he does not believe anyone cares for him down under. They are also entertaining Jack’s mother who spends a few days with them, while also making plans for her daughter’s wedding.

Jack is the same as he is in all his content but he seems to be out of his comfort zone more than his father in season 4. He’s thrust into speed dating after an emotional conversation with his mother about being single and not having a plus one for the wedding. At the end of episode 1, Jack’s father confidently walks through a bush trail while Jack is clearly not comfortable seeing wildlife and eventually a snake — I’m pretty sure there was very little recorded for this phase of the documentary. It’s almost like the roles are reversed — Michael seems happier than Jack in the season and it’s good to see.

But more importantly, Jack Whitehall: Travels with My Father season 4 sees the father and son duo continue to make you laugh — it’s becoming a staple on Netflix and with the world suffering from a pandemic, we may need to hold on to this for a while as it’s hard to imagine that we’ll see a new installment any time soon.

It’s such a shame that this may be a goodbye to this series because it never gets boring.
