Our Marvel previews for January 2021 is a continuation of our monthly preview series, which has been on hiatus since late August.
The much anticipated King In Black event will continue to envelope most of the Marvel Universe in 2021. Donny Cates masterminds the event with a host of crossovers and one-shots. If you are a fan of his writing on Venom, you will probably be ready for action, and in January the whole thing will be in full swing. Planet of the Symbiotes #1 kicks off, followed by Venom #32, where The King In Black arrives with Eddie in his way.
One-shot Gwenom vs Carnage sees the Gwen Stacey of Earth 65 (Ghost Rider) facing off against Knull in issue #1 of a 3-issue run, and in a similar vein, Thunderbolts #1 of 3 sees Kingpin’s killers against an army of unkillable dragons. Black Knight #1 is a one-shot with Knull’s attack on earth continuing. Symbiote Spider-Man: King In Black #3 of 5 sees an appearance by Kang the Conqueror, Spider-Woman #8 sees a cure coming into sight, while over in Black Cat issue #2, Felicia has to steal from Knull himself. Return of the Valkyries issue #1 of 4 stars Jane Foster, in charge of stopping The King in Black’s attack on Midgard, and in Daredevil #26, Matt and Elektra may be in over their heads. Spartax is under attack in Guardians of the Galaxy #10, can Starlord help? Savage Avengers #17 sees the start of Black Skies, starring Conan, and S.W.O.R.D #2 asks what is Protocol V?
Had enough of that? Look out for Non-Stop Spider-Man issue #1 by Joe Kelly, with the usual variant covers to sell this thing, including a hidden gem variant by Larry Lieber. The story follows a mystery at Empire State University that thrusts Spidey into an adventure that pits him against an army of villains all around the world.
Iron Fist gets another 6-issue series starting in January by Larry Hama, Maestro gets another 5-issue run by Peter David, Shang Chi gets another one-shot by Alyssa Wong (pretty sure there’s a movie in production somewhere), Juggernaut reaches the final issue of his series in issue #5, Children of the Atom, teenage X-Men sidekicks, launches with a 48-page issue, and Immortal Hulk has another one-shot, “Flatline”, by Declan Shalvey. Classic Marvel fans might enjoy facsimile editions of Captain America #117 and #354, while the regular title hits issue #27. This month’s Marvel snapshots issue features Captain Marvel, while regular issue #25 looks like it has Aquaman on the cover, but it isn’t as that would be a disaster for everyone. Spider-Man #56, #57, and #58 sees Norman Osborne and Kingpin together in Last Remains as an era of Nick Spencer’s run comes to an end.
Those are your Marvel previews for January 2021. Enjoy.
