3.5

Summary

This is a reality series that will excite the holiday season enthusiasts and force the grinches to roll their eyes; regardless of which camp you sit in, it’s difficult to not enjoy the makeovers in this series — there’s a feeling of magic within each episode.

Netflix’s Holiday Home Makeover with Mr. Christmas season 1 was released on the streaming service on November 18, 2020.

There’s one thing I am very passionate about — Christmas decorations should not be up until December 1st. They also should be put down on New Year’s Day, that’s if the hangover stays at bay. If I see a house before that important date, I become a modern-day grinch that says nothing but will privately complain about it. However, I do have one exception to the rule that I created before I wrote this review; if Benjamin Bradley (nicknamed Mr. Christmas) came to my house in November to get my house ready for the holiday season, I’d 100% contradict myself and give a resounding “Yes”. The interior designer has a keen eye, and especially one for Christmas.

Rolling onto Netflix is a new reality series, that proves that there is a show for absolutely anything in modern-day streaming — Holiday Home Makeover with Mr. Christmas. As the title spells out rather loudly, the series follows Mr. Christmas visiting family homes and giving them a magical makeover in time for the season. This is a reality series that will excite the holiday season enthusiasts and force the grinches to roll their eyes; regardless of which camp you sit in, it’s difficult to not enjoy the makeovers in this series — there’s a feeling of magic within each episode.

Benjamin Bradley’s enthusiasm and joy for the makeovers are the unique selling points for the series. He appears to genuinely care as he tasks his teams of elves to help him focus on the interior and exterior of family homes. The host of the series seems to find more enjoyment from his customer’s reactions than his own self-indulgence, which brings a certain level of genuineness to the show.

As part of the makeover, Benjamin, the elves, and the family partake in activities to help launch the makeover before the family is then whisked away so the design team can give it a final glow.

Should you watch Holiday Home Makeover with Mr. Christmas? It doesn’t make a difference to me, but if you want to find some motivation for putting your decorations up (December 1st), then this series will definitely encourage you.
