Summary

Episode 7 demonstrates the serious pain one can find themselves in when heartbroken, and the embarrassing and damaging ramifications it can bring.

This recap of Netflix K-Drama series Lovestruck in the City episode 7 contains significant spoilers.

The opening

Episode 7 opens up with two police offers talking about Oh Seon-yeong, and that she’s always falling in love but has previously caused a scene with an ex in the police station. Apparently, she does it often. The officers state that ex-partners’ gifts should not be a police issue and that when they come to the station drunk, it’s awful.

Jae-won is a regular drunk at the police station

And then like the last episode, Jae-won heads into the police station and tries to report Yoon Seon-a for stealing his cameras. They seat a drunk Jae-won next to a sleeping drunk Oh Seon-yeong. Jae-won tells them that the cameras were special to him. He tells the officers his story of how he met her near the beach and broke his heart. The police officer tells Jae-won that he’s a drunk regular at the station and that he’s visited five times with the same story. The officer shows him various written accounts of his visits with dates. Jae-won clearly does not remember these drunk moments — he’s a lost man, wounded by love.

The basis of friendship

Lee Eun-o, Sun Rin-i and Geon explain to the audience that they’ve been friends for years. It then flits back to four years previously, and Geon is in the cafe — Oh Seon-yeong tells him it’s either “her or Sun Rin-i” or “her or Lee Eun-o”. Geon doesn’t want to choose between love and friendship. Outside, Seon-yeong tells Sun Rin-i and Lee Eun-o that “girls shouldn’t fight over boys” before walking off. In the present day, Lee Eun-o and Sun Rin-i tell Geon that they believe that Seon-yeong broke up with him for different reasons, like being a “bad kisser”.

Choi Kyeong-jun comes to Jae-won’s rescue

Choi Kyeong-jun receives a call that Jae-won is at the police station so heads over and gives the officers a drink each to try and appease them. An officer allows Jae-won out of the cell but warns him he could get into trouble if this carries on. Choi Kyeong-jun tells his cousin that his behaviour is embarrassing. They then go into Jae-won’s office and confiscate all his alcohol. Jae-won is at his lowest point.

A reminder of their sweet romance

Jae-won walks through the city with his surfboard he made with Lee Eun-o. So does Lee Eun-o. Flashbacks show both characters enjoying their romance near the beach. It’s a painful reminder of what they both had. There’s something spiritual about being near the beach, allowing nature to take you in as you spend time with someone, compared to the hustle and bustle of the city — it’s a depressing gulf between both worlds that episode 7 demonstrates well.

Both characters try and remove the surfboards

Jae-won enters a disposal company and asks how he can throw away the surfboard — he wants to find ways to forget Lee Eun-o. Meanwhile, Lee Eun-o is doing the same at another place. However, when she is about to give it away, she hesitates before letting it go.

The ending

Memories flood back for both characters. Jae-won couldn’t get rid of his surfboard, but he’s confident he will be okay eventually. Suddenly, Jae-won remembers he had his dashcam on when Lee Eun-o ran in front of his car and tells Kyeong-jun that he ended up at the station because he saw Lee Eun-o (obviously calling her Seon-a) and that he can use the footage.

But when he gets to the spot where he parked his car, there’s a penalty charge notice, and it’s been taken away. Choi Kyeong-jun rings Sun Rin-i and tells her that Jae-won has gone insane and believes Seon-a was in the neighbourhood, which is why he ended up having drinks in the vicinity.

The epilogue shows Lee Eun-o asking the authorities to tow Jae-won’s car away and offers to pay the fine.
