This The Neighborhood season 3, episode 9 recap for the episode titled “Welcome to the Shakedown” contains spoilers.

Following directly on from the previous episode, Calvin and Tina are celebrating the boys moving out. But the jubilations are undermined somewhat when Gemma realizes she has lost her phone, and then Dave realizes, after calling it and discovering someone at the other end of the line, that it has been stolen. The thief is asking for $300 for its safe return. The nerve!

Gemma, though, isn’t too worried, since she has all her stuff backed up to the cloud and can just buy a new phone. She makes Dave promise to leave it alone, but Dave can’t help but get ridiculously wound up about this egregious affront to his masculinity, and when Calvin finds him outside angrily stomping his recycling, he insists they can still get it back.

Their ill-thought-through plan in The Neighborhood season 3, episode 9 is simply to meet with the thief to exchange the money for the phone but have Calvin jump out from an alleyway and intimidate him. This, it turns out, is a major success, but it’s so much of a success that the thief has a heart attack on the spot.

Dave, predictably, feels terrible about his involvement in this, but he and Calvin have to follow their victim to the hospital anyway in order to retrieve the phone and complete the mission. When they’re caught snooping by a nurse, they’re forced to pose as the thief’s brothers and help to bring him out of his comatose state with made-up stories of their childhood together. Tina and Gemma, meanwhile, track their phones to the hospital.

Gemma is annoyed that Dave interfered against her wishes, but she’s mostly just glad he’s okay. Tina is quietly impressed at how intimidating her husband can be, and the thief, for what it’s worth, seems to make a recovery, although they get out of there quickly when he thinks they’ve followed him to finish the job.

In the B-plot of The Neighborhood season 3, episode 9, Marty and Malcolm are moving into Walter’s old house, and naturally, start arguing about who gets the big bedroom. The petty rivalry persists all episode until they both discover that the room is right under Tina and Calvin’s. Suddenly, neither of them wants it after all.
