Invasion From Planet Wrestletopia gets Kickstarted! Indie series seeks funding for trade
If you follow the comic reviews on RSC, you may have noticed the reviews of one of my favorite series, Invasion From Planet Wrestletopia.
The fun wrestle mania sci-fi action-adventure was a great upbeat 90’0 style knock-around that was nothing like anything else on the market and delivered a great comic book experience.
Well, the team behind it is looking for a hand getting the floppies into trade through Kickstarter, and it sounds like a good idea to me.
As we speak, the campaign is live, and the plan is to get enough backers to get the collected edition into a physical form.
So what’s in it for you? Well, fans of the original series get exclusive bonus material, and a special cover by renowned artist Ryan Lang, and there are also options to receive trading cards and posters. The first tier of the campaign starts at $25.
If you are intrigued by the book, the story itself follows pro wrestler Rock ‘n Roll Rory Landell, who declares himself “galactic champion of the universe” but little does he know that his actions have sparked an intergalactic war with a race of aliens for whom wrestling isn’t just real, it’s their way of life. Can Rory get his act together in time to save us all?
The 6 issues of the run are what the team is hoping to collect, and one of the first perks includes your name added to the trade’s backmatter presented as a special “memorial” to the brave people who lost their lives during the wrestletopian invasion!
This book has been a labor of love for Ed and Matt, the video game writers that collaborated on the comic, and their love of wrestling is obvious all through the story.
If you, like them, love the genre, this is surely a book for you.
You can check the campaign out now, and even if you don’t want the book, why not throw them a couple of bucks as a pledge to help them get this fun and exciting project to fruition. Every little will help, even a dollar (or a pound).
