HBO’s excellent social satire The White Lotus hasn’t even finished yet (its first season ends on Sunday), but Mike White’s show has already been renewed for a second outing. Information is very thin on the ground so far, but we’ll be sure to update this post with more details as we get them regarding The White Lotus season 2.
The first season was “set at an exclusive Hawaiian resort and follows the vacations of various hotel guests over the span of a week as they relax and rejuvenate in paradise. But with each passing day, a darker complexity emerges in these picture-perfect travelers, the hotel’s cheerful employees and the idyllic locale itself.” The first round of six episodes have largely been a skewering of rich, white privilege, particularly how that kind of thing relates to the exploitation of indigenous people. Part comedy, part drama, the show’s withering observations have made it a ratings hit week in and week out, and we’ve been kind to it within these hallowed pages.
The White Lotus season 2 plot
From the press release:
The next chapter of The White Lotus leaves Hawaii behind and follows a different group of vacationers as they jet to another White Lotus property and settle in temporarily amongst its inhabitants.
This makes perfect sense given the show’s format, which doesn’t lend itself to continuing the storylines of the same characters at the same resort. Hopefully, the new setting will be just as ripe for both comedy and drama.
